Images comes before words. But words eventually become more powerful than images.
When you read a book, the words you know consist of the images you've seen. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to form images in your head when you read.

I know it's a slightly different conversation, but there's also words vs video. I would much rather read an article on something than watch a 10 minute youtube video on it. I feel like I retain it better when I read it, and for the most part I can get through an article faster than most videos that are usually longer than they should be.

I'll add:
We're having an Absolute Sensory Experience as Humans where
Both Images + Words are Emergences as "Evolutionary Technology".
As Greatly Efficient + Powerful forms of transferring data, info, reality etc.
・
Images |
can be more visceral with literally meanings + feelings that words don't capture + greatly differs in impact depending on who, when, and how the human receives the Image (meaning making, perspective, ego lens, state thereof etc. )
・
Words |
can be more precise w/ greater richness + depth when it comes to capturing a "motion picture" in our minds eye through our agreed upon ( "these compilation of *face noises* & therefore words mean (x) etc.).
Capturing + transferring Rich, Dense amounts of information on written pages.
From my experience you can even take on & experience the writers state of mind + consciousness(who they were as humans at the time of the writing).

Wonderful stuff Men.

For example, if you tried to describe a certain texture, you can't describe it using it's own words, but you have to liken it to something already known. Or, try to describe the Nasa spaceship. It'd be very hard to do so in writinh.・
