approaching my mid 30s I realize I probably should have tried earlier.

You say mid 30s feels too old, but then there's 50 yr old men still impregnating woman. Eddie Murphy had another kid at 56

I'd say it depends on your energy level first. If you're a tired rotter at 42, don't bother. If you can still run 10 miles at 50, then keeping up with a kid shouldn't be hard

You can technically start one at any age.

It boils down to understanding if you want to deal with the hassle of a family. not that its all bad, far from it but it is a full time commitment.

As we get older we dont want to deal with as much nonsense anymore and a wife and kids will provide an abundance of it.

Lets say you star a family today at 32 or so.

That means that you wont be remotely clear of the commitment for at least 20 years, mid 50's or so.

That will be when you can start to be yourself and have some time and money to do stuff you want to do.

Mid 50's isnt really that old but you have to ask yourself if that is something you want to do. Also keep in mind that its not like it is on tv where everyone dotes on grandpa and loves sitting at his knee listening to his stories. far from it. There is a good chance you will do all that family work only to be kicked to the curb and abandoned mid 50's .

Just some stuff to think about.
"To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."-- Carlos Castaneda

Stop grasping for staws OP.

Having kids is the worst decision you can make. There are some women who have the inate desire sure but it is our jobs as men to stand up to them and say "No!"

If you need purpose that aint it OP

I do not know but one thing many fathers feel is that they wish they had gotten kids earlier. So much time wasted.

Got married at 35.

Getting pregnant now at 37

Kid will probably be born at 38

Love being late 30s with 1st kid.

All my peers had kids in their 20s and they all wasted their 20s being parents while I wrecked p*ssy.

Now I'm wise and will make a good father

There are more factors than age alone:
Have you ever been in a commited relationship? If you haven't or know you're unable to build a relationship with a woman, you're not going to be able to hold a family together.
Sure you can impregnate a woman but if your relationship skills are garbage, you won't have a family, just an offspring.
At that point, it doesn't matter whether you're 30 or 50 , you're just unable to start a family, period.

Had my first kid at 38 with my wife 35, luckily we're both non degenerates and our boy is healthy, amazing and we're both high energy individuals.
Truth be told, when you have a kid, you wish you had started earlier and also wish to have more...
Good luck OP, kids are a blessing and absolutely worth it.

Having kids in your mid to late 30s is not easy. I'm in my late 30s with a 2 year old and another one on the way, and in my limited experience 1) it's harder to tolerate chronic sleep deprivation in your 30s than in your 20s; 2) it's marginally harder to keep up with a toddler's energy level in your late 30s than in your 20s, but shouldn't be much of a factor if you aren't a fat tub of lard and have maintained some semblance of cardiovascular fitness; 3) one of the adjustments i've had to make is going from spending 1.5 - 2 decades being able to do whatever I want in my free time, and basically having unlimited free time outside of work, to feeling like a rotter if I have an hour to myself on a Saturday afternoon because such a block of uninterrupted free time is a rare luxury these days.

The two hardest things for me have been the lack of sleep and not being able to work out whenever and for however long I want.

A lot of people think its better to have kids when you are young (20s). But as a male I have to question that. My dad had my younger sister at 50. His brother had two kids in his 50s. And I've a buddy that had his first kid at 46.

I get it. Its nice to be 'finished' at that age. But at the same time. For all of them its pretty much easy mode. They have the finances/life-style worked out where a baby/child is 0 concern. They are more 'settled'. Which means doing schit with their kids in their time off is just relaxing/normal. The only real caveat is their kid is typically hanging out with their friends grandkids. Which is funny. But it still works.

I'll probably be popping out my first kid around 38-40. And I'm on track to retire by 46. So essentially by the time my kids are 10 years old. I'll be fully retired and able to be a 'stay at home' dad. Childcare, worrying about them getting to-from school, finances, their athletic schedules, etc. will all be irrelevant to me.

I get it. Its a big risk to do things this way. But I wasn't ready for kids when I was younger, and can't imagine WTF my life would have been like with them. As it is now, life is on cruise control. Just 10 more years and I'm checking out of the work force & rat race. I'm nearly 37 and I'm finally getting to a point where I can say I've done most of the things I want in life. Kids won't be 'holding me back' from any life-style choices/goals anymore.

My dad was about 45 when I was born. Srs. Now I'm in my late 20s and he's approaching his mid-70s. He still has his marbles but he's losing out on some cognitive capabilities I can tell, at least compared to before. More importantly, his healthy issues are prominent and frequently occurring. I would've liked 5-15 more years before this. As such, probably makes sense to say the earlier in your 30s the better, but if you're someone in your 20s you shouldn't feel a need to rush just yet.

Having my first kid at 39, my woman is five years younger

I’d be totally comfortable having kids up to 50, that might go up as the years pass

My parents had me quite young and there are pros and cons to each, but I obviously lean towards waiting. My woman and I are FAR more set up and prepared for kids than my parents were.

This will likely be my path but what is a bit odd to me is how old I would be when my kid graduates college. That puts me at what, 38 + 21 = 59?

I'd be retiring when my kid leaves college.

I guess with longer lifespans and slower aging this won't be as bad.

My wife and I were both 46 when our daughter was born.
Screw nature; my body will do what I DAMN WELL tell it to do!

It'll probably seem a lot less odd over the next 10-20-30 years, 31+ is the mean age of mothers at child birth here in Canada these days

Would never consider having kids after your 30’s . Imagine you’re in your mid forties and you knock a sloot up . That’s what I definitely want , a 20 YO living in my basement when I’m trying to retire
