Something I never figured out about the movie Braveheart

In Braveheart when he comes back and tells Maren that he has always loved her..."I love you. Always have." or whatever

Bro your uncle took you away from the village when you were like 5 and she was 3. You been always in love and thinking about a 3 year old girl for the last 20 years?

Is William Wallace a democrat?

What i wonder about these type of movies is in the big battle scenes, there are always people painted blue.

Who were they and why are there always blue people in them. All the movies set in that same timeframe have the blue warriors in them but they never explain who they are.

It's a romantic way of portraying arranged marriages of the time. His old man and hers were mates, peers. Probably discussed marrying their children before the fatal battle. The custom of the time was to have arranged marriages. Nipping anglo/jewish plans of inceldom and then domination.
