A lot of engineering can be done from home. It isn't about the discipline, but about what you are actually doing.

I started a company with myself and four guys all based from home, to keep the overhead down. We still went on client site, but WFH when not on site, as we didn't have an office.

The easiest way to explain it, to somebody who hasn't done it, is to compare it to architects. They do site visits, but most of their time is sat at a desk, which can just as easily be done WFH.

The issue with WFH from has never been the nature of the work, but rather the people. The majority of people are not psychologically suited to it and get less done. Maybe one in six are suited to it.

I'll never forget the CEO of zoom demanding everybody come back to the office as they weren't doing any work. When the people selling WFH software cannot get the same level of productivity from people WFH, it says a lot.

All the semi guys called their wagies back in office. Went on a job hunt in October and did not see a single remote listing.
