Is this a new Social Media trend? (cringe)

Someone says 'hi' to you, then another person walks by and acts like it was them the 'hi' was intended for.

Happened a handful of times in the last 6 or so months.

I dont follow influencers or social media in general.
It might explain why it happens seemingly repeatedly though.
