Why is every game an RPG now?

I'm currently playing Infinite Wealth & I'm thinking my next game will be either FF Rebirth, Rise of Ronin, or Dragon's Dogma 2. I love IW & these other games look great and all, but where the fuk are any other genres? Even most action games now are RPG-lites.

The idea and systems just work really well, sense of progression the more you play, incentive to explore the game world, different builds etc so adds replayability and a ton of other stuff

you can add RPG elements to almost any game and it'd work well if done correctly, you cant really say that about any other genre

In some ways, Ig it's like open worlds. Nowadays, 90% of games are open-worlds or at least non-linear. RPG's might just be the way of the future.

Everything in AAA is pretty much the same sort of video game. Either it's an online competitive game just like all the others, or it's some live service game just like all the others, or it's some RPG like all the others.

Well in 2024 you only get a few choices rpg, jrpg, battle royale or simulator

It's a big reason i have went retro tbh

POP is a revival of an old franchise, much like every other platformer (most of which are remakes). I also wouldn't count sports or strategy games either, since those are alway around for the niche markets they fit. That leaves Atomic Hearts, which is technically also an RPG...
