ITT: What is your best and worst time of day to train? (DYEL welcome)

On my end, best time is around 7-8am. Worst time is any time early afternoon onwards (srs). I begin working very early out of personal preference. By early afternoon, I shift into other roles. Missing my AM training and having to rally and train in the PM is almost always schit. I feel tired, lack energy and motivation, etc. I'm up by 5am and my best training sessions are quite early, at least by 8:30am.

Today, I need to train in the PM again and I'm dreading it. Ain't nothin' to it but to do it, though. Fuk it.

What about you?

For your time...

About 2 hours after waking up, gives me time so I'm not groggy but I've still got that coffee plus days worth of energy and carbs from the night meal to give 100%

Early afternoon for me (Arrive at gym between 1 and 2 pm).

I'm basically useless physically in all ways before 10am. I can make an 11am workout work, just takes more warmup time than usual. I can also make evening/night workouts work, all the way up to ~11pm start time. But those midday workouts hit different for me.

It's 110% bro-science, but I also like to think (lol) that the hormonal boost of working out midday (test and HGH supposedly peaks again within the hours of, and after workouts) helps to keep my overall T and GH levels higher in a 24 hour period. First peak in the morning as usual for most people, then it starts falling but rises again due to the workout and in the hours after, then less than 8 hours later go to sleep where - you guessed it - hormonal levels rise again.

On the weekends I usually hit the gym somewhere between 11-12. Seems to be the sweet spot. Week days I'll go after work at like 6ish which I don't mind either, because I'm fully fed at that point and can get a decent session in. Tried the whole 6am chit and it didn't fly, just feel weak at that time in the morning.

If I do mornings I have to wake up at least an hour or 2 before and it can be just as good as evening

I prefer not waking up early though. When I go in evening or even noon my body is already 100% awake vs morning I have to make sure I'm awake when I go or i'll feel like chit

I'm like boyo above, it needs to be around 2 hours after waking. I'm up by 5am so I'm usually really ready to train at 7am. By 6pm I'm so mentally done it's hard to express using words.

8-10pm

Based on 30 years of trial and error, I personally get more reps and lift more weight later in the day, so I train in the evenings.

Best: late night
Worst: morning

I've never been a morning person. It's when I'm at my weakest and it takes me more time to get in the groove. I get my best workouts late night. I'm awake, active and have been moving my body all day...which makes it easier because I don't have to do warm up sets or stretching.

Early in the morning, mid-afternoon or late evening.

Early morning workouts are great. Kicks off your day leaving you energized and motivated, and gyms are quiet as well. Mid-afternoon also quiet and peaceful, unpopulated and you can take your time. Late evening similar deal, although I don't like to be really exerting myself really, really late.

My only "worst time" is between 4-7pm. Holy balls is that the epitome of chit:

In my experience, it quietened down after 7:30-8:00.

I've trained at home for a few years now, but the "train straight after work" crowd used to be pretty much all gone by 8.

Yeah, I can see that. Last time I trained in a commercial gym, I used to train religiously at 7:30-8am. It was always the same pre-work crew of serious lifters, many of them involved in contest prep cycles. Phenomenal environment. That's really the main thing I miss about training in a commercial gym. Apart from that, I really love training solo in my home dungeon gym.

When I first began, I saw a Japanese study that showed that strength was best between 4-7pm so I tried to follow that.
Then after experimenting with morning, mid day, and evenings I realized that for me coordination and strength was best at 6 to 10pm
Pre-workout helps at any time.

I've been lifting early in the morning for about 10 years now. Before it was after work. In that time I've accumulated my own equipment and only set foot in a commercial gym once or twice a year. I've switched to more kettlebell-focused workouts but when I was doing primarily BB lifts, I only ever had issues with deads and taking forever to warm up. On weekdays I wake up at 5:30 and usually start by 6:30. I don't always do Saturdays, but do most of the time...Saturdays I don't rush and usually get one in before noon.
