You know I read somewhere that this idea that our prehistoric ancestors lived only to the age of 35 is flat out wrong. Yes, our ancestors faced tremendous amount of risks, dangers, infant mortality etc but they were not genetically programmed to expire in their 30s. For those that managed to survive the odds, it wasn't unusual for them to reach 60-70 years of age as evidenced by human remains from 50-60,000 years ago. In any case, what I wanted to say was that if we are able to live to advanced years then it would not be unreasonable for our brains to take their time to fully mature.

Well honestly people have a lot of maturing to do until they hit mid 20's, that's about when most people become actual adults for the first time.

Being Jaded and bitter isn't 'being an adult' - being an adult is developing the emotional stability and thick skin needed to take sh*t from people all day long and not let it get to you/destabilize you/make your act out due to being emotional.

I would say that being jaded and bitter is a sign of mental and emotional immaturity - that's not to say that you shouldn't keep your wits about you, but part of growing up is realising that life is not about YOU, but others around you.

Your thoughts, beliefs and opinions about the world, preferences in women, career goals etc, change the most between the ages of 18-25. Once you reach the age of 25 most people have a general idea of what theytrulywant out of life (even if they haven't quite achieved it yet).

Thats where it comes from.

and when i say that life is about the people around you, I mean your family - and not about impressing randoms around town such as buying drinks down at the bar for 'friends' or leaving a good impression on people at work or at the gym, but going home and abusing your parents, wife and kids like many people like to do.

Lol, no that's not what I mean.

You're right, but OP is referring to a point I made in a now deleted thread. I stated that the prefrontal cortex didn't fully develop until around the age of 25.

Thread got deleted, but it's the same guy who is fixated on debating something that was never said in the first place.

Some people's prefrontal cortex never develops to that of an actual adult though.

Are you sure that it didn't 'fully develop' or that it just 'stops developing' at 25 - as in, if you're an irresponsible kunt at 20 and at 25, things are not looking good for your or your partner.

Fair point, I never considered it like that.

That could also explain why some adults 30+ still have the emotional maturity of a teenager.

Ugh yeah - I think it might just 'stop developing' at 25 and you're sort of stuck with what you've got at that point.

It would be optimal that some magic happened between 20 and 25 where you automatically become your best self, but I'm afraid that doesn't sound right.
