Confess. Which Miscer was doing Jury Duty Yesterday?
The juror, probably in his mid 20's, approaches the bailiff and instead of reading the oath "So help me God," reads it as "So God, help me?" *turns to judge*
Judge asked for the whole thing to be redone, so he does the exact same thing...
Judge stopped the whole juror selection process and gave the panel instructions on how to respond to the oath and affirmation (not their job).
It was very seriously crossing my mind that these people might not be fit for sitting as jurors. But the judge proceeded anyway.
Also, during the juror selection process the lawyers for the prosecution and defendant have the right to challenge a juror who has been selected (for any reason at all).
A few people were challenged (rejected) and as this was happening there were people behind us, either panelists or people sitting in on the proceeding, laughing each time someone was rejected.
Cant believe how much society is degrading, serious.

Why are jurors reading oaths out loud? Shouldn't court clerks or judges be doing that?

The bailiff reads what the actual oath is ie. what is being sworn.
Then the juror says "So help me God" with hand on bible.
This is Australia. Possibly different to where you live.
