am i too old for gaming or just suck too much?

bought an xbox series s and gamepass bout a year ago

havent owned a gaming system since xbox 360 palying halo reach/gta 5

brb every game has menu's within menu's and multiple button combos now

even tho graphically some of these games are amazing i just cant really get into them. they are way to big and i only play bout 10-15 hours a week.

i mostly played shooters way back but have been trying other style of games but just cant do it. snow runner, farming simulator, stardew valley, power wash simulator, just so boring and tedious

was just trying life of pi

brb cant even beat boss at 6mins into game. tried 15-20 times. (to be fair i never tried a darksouls game and know they are punishing)

but i have tried many others and i just lose interest or it gets to hard. batman arkham knight. was super good but 2/3 into game and youre fighting huge mobs and have to know all the counters and 50+ button combos. doom eternal - holy **** non stop enemies for 5-10mins straight and if you stop moving you die fast. anxitey galore. sniper elite 5 - brb snore fest brb have to wait so long annalyzing patterns. one false move and you get swarmed by enemy and have to do it again. the maps are like 2-3 hours long each. battlefield 5 brb die within 1 second of seeing an enemy(multiplayer). dont even have time to react. dont even know what direction im getting killed from most the time. try and be a tank whore and some dude just easily runs up to me and blows me up with a satchel charge. resident evil 2 remake - cant even get out of the police station cuz too confused as to what im even supposed to do since no waypoints. fallout 76 brb join game and dudes are 50-100 levels above me and take all the kills or advance the quest too easily. far cry 5 cant even get past the opening vechicle gun chase scene. brb tomb raider cant even beat the puzzles 20 mins into game without youtube

only beat halo 5 and titanfall 2 but played them on easy

jesus man

Probably age. Every once in a while I've tried, in the last several years, but I just cannot get into that chit at all.

Dude, everyone is moving over to retro gaming these days, even zoomers. The latest gaming scene is crap for the most part.

you beat me to it. If not retro games, even new indie games that have 8-32bit graphics are my goto.

They're quick, pick up and play games, don't have complicated controls and you can get maximum enjoyment out of them even if you play for 30 minutes per day. I just don't have time for "AAA" games anymore with 50 hour campaigns and multilayered control schemes.

I feel like an old man even saying that, but its the truth. Younger me would be disappointed in myself, but I'm simply not that excited for games like I use to. I just lose interest much faster if I'm not immediately engaged in a "easy to play-hard to master" game.

Could be age, and sometimes you're just in a slump.

I realized I was getting too slow to keep up with the younger crowd in Apex, srs. Hung up the towel.

Currently trying to get better as SF6 because I'm stubborn and wanna play classic controls has also been pretty hard. But that could be due to me using a PS4 controller while the game displays everything in Xbox...lol

Back playing COD after decades of not gaming . COD 2007 was a great game imo . Went threw it on medium mode , then got half way threw on hardest mode so far .
Wish I had aircraft controls ,as there’s a wicked simulator I recently found . Other than that I like first person shooters

I literally only play one game these days. It's a popular e-sport too. Always trying to mog others in virtual maps. Always trying to improve and maintain skills

Yup. All the hardcore nerds and leftists have basically ruined the gaming scene. It just isn't cool anymore, they're basically the most up-tight and aggressive people you will encounter. On the internet of course, where most of them have a terminal presence.

Older games are where it's at. Especially 90's and 00's games, that's basically the golden era. They were just making games to be fun back then, it was before everything got corrupted by competitive gamers, corporate suits, and political activists.

Retro gaming is great. Playing warzone with the lads is always a good time, also fall guys is hilarious.

Fall Guys was cool until the sweaty tryhards started taking it seriously. Never been a fan of games like Warzone.

yeah i tried warzone but brb get owned to fast. dayZ seemed cool from youtube videos but brb walk around for 40mins and only find a bucket hat and track pants. wtf how these guys got full camo and m4a1's with padding making bases?

tried some of those wonky mechanic games like human fall flat, something beast and most recently delivery service game. seems pretty funny but most people just wanted to troll and pull you into death so not cool and annoying

Ya I’m not playing it as often for the same reason, I was off for 8 weeks after a surgery and played it non stop lol. I wish they opened up the chat though.

I’m not very good at warzone but do enjoy having a laugh with squad mates, the proximity chat can be pretty funny

I think having friends to play with is the only way to enjoy a game like Warzone, those games suck if you're on your own unless you're some turbo-sweaty tryhard.

It is. Every fkn pvp game has skill based match making which puts you up against the biggest no lifers the algorithm can find, turning every match into a chore. Those no lifers have the audacity to say, it's a game of course people are going to do everything they can to win. And it's like no you fkn fat slob/scrawny weakling. A game is supposed to be chill and should not cater to people whose sole meaning in life comes from 'winning' in a pvp game. I say 'winning' because even if you win in a pvp game you're still losing lol.

If you stop playing games you kind of lose it. I’m still highly competitive in FIFA because I’ve played every version since N64, but this is the first year I’ve played madden since about 07 and I’m nowhere near the dominance I was in college. You lose the subtleties it takes to be good as you boomermax. Realistically video game prime is like 14-24

COD mobile is surprisingly easy. I pwn them all with phone controls, if you use a controller you play against other controllers and I die fast. Quick to play a game and free

I could never understand the mentality of people who seem to exclusively play games competitively, where their competitive prowess is their entire reason and motivation for playing video games.

Being competitive is human nature

If I can do that with out the risk of injury or being face to face irl with my opponent, that in itself is win all around

Think about the movies and tv shows you liked and didn’t like as a kid, versus now as an adult. Idk about you, but I flip flopped

I don’t see why video games would be different

Just need to try different ones/genres

I guess, I just think video games have always had far more to offer than simply being a means to compete with others. I mean if you're so big on being competitive you should take up a sport IRL or something. For me video games have basically been an alternative to watching movies and TV shows for home relaxation entertainment. Getting all sweaty about it largely defeats the purpose of what I'm looking for.

I said no risk of injury in e-sports. An irl sport, there's risk of injury. That is my point
