Considering LDAR

For at least for a year.

Burned out and need a break. Have never taken a career break. Have ~$3M invested now, so technically could retire on $100k.

I like the idea of 1 year sabbatical and then just reconsidering work again at that point.

Bet you don't last more than a month on LDAR - probably less.

But when is the last time you took a month long vacation? Do that as a litmus test.

I was LDAR crew for a long time. It is meh. You will get bored. But you could always stock up on games like Cyberpunk, BG3, RDR2, GTA V, etc and waste a good year or so playing through them.

3.5% SWR is typical. It all depends what you want to live on, US gets expensive once you introduce a mortgage, healthcare and kids.

I donโ€™t have so much of a problem with taking the year off work as I do the LDAR. If you take a year off, you need to have some kind of plan for it.

Although cliche travel ainโ€™t a bad suggestion.

Why is everyone rich now? It seems like everyone owns a house, makes 6 figures, and is a millionaire. It wasn't like this 5 years ago.

What's the breakdown of your 3 million? 80% stocks, 10% - 20% home, etc. Do you have a FIRE number in mind with safe withdrawal rate 2-4%?

It really depends on where you live. HCOL - 3 million is nothing really, MCOL - 3 million is ok, LCOL - 3 million is a lot.

Also it's because of money supply increased a fuk ton the past 5 years. The ones that benefitted from this were the ones that held assets.

Do it OP, ded fcking serious. I lost my job a couple years ago and I spent 10 months unemployed until I got into my current job, and that 10 months was fcking magical. I reframed my mind and did a bunch of soul searching and it did me a lot of good. It sounds gay and new-age but I know a lot more about myself and where I should be, what I should do in life, etc. I'm seriously considering quitting my current job right now and doing it again, to be honest. I hustled at my last job for a little over 13 years and I was fried, but my break did me a lot of good.

When I hit 3 mil like you my plan isn't to retire either, but negotiate some extra unpaid time off from the company. Probably like an extra 4 weeks unpaid time off I can spend which basically doubles the amount of time I can take away from work.

I think taking a full year off is too much. I'd get bored pretty quickly which is the same reason for not retiring. Being able to take like a full month of unpaid time off in addition to the normal amount of PTO sprinkled around the rest of the year I think would work well for me.

Retiring or taking a break isn't LDAR, go for it.

You strike me as too high in conscientiousness to actually enjoy a year of rotting. If work's that bad, I would look at a transfer or a different job, but I don't think you'd be happy without a list of chit to do.

If I had that kind of money, I sure as hell would. Wagecucking is quite unfulfilling and tedious.
