Just got scammed by a mechanic (GTFIH)

As u guys know my car is broken

Towed it to another shop

They told me they can save it and ordered a part but when they tried they couldn’t save it

Still had to pay for the part and labor for them trying

I’m sure they knew from the beginning there was no saving the car but just scammed
I don't check my CP, IDC about reps/negs

Yes you got screwed.
Years ago, brought my jeep to a dealer to fix the AC. The hood rubbed a hole in the AC line. I pointed it out to them, showing them the hole. They offered a FREE loaner while they worked on it, so I took it.

2 weeks go by, service manager calls me mad af that I still have the loaner. I asked if they fixed my car yet. They did not. They said they can’t get the part, and want me to bring the loaner back.
I go there, they try charging me for the loaner, and for the non repair on my Jeep. Told them fk off, I’m not paying for either. Not paying for services NOT done, or for a FREE loaner you offered. Said I shouldn’t have waited 2 weeks. I should’ve called. Told him that’s your job, to call me. He said he has too many responsibilities to keep track of who has what or to make phone calls. Told him to get his boss in here and we’ll discuss with him, how you’re unable to handle the responsibilities of his job, and that you need an easier job.
He gave me my keys and told me to leave.

Took Jeep to private small auto shop, 2 bays. Dude had my AC fixed in 2 days.

it's dishonest to say i can do it, then dont, and charge anyway, you are paying a service, if they wasted their time it's on them cuz they provided no service, maybe 'consultation' but their consultation was wrong since they either lied or misjudged the problem
I got this

Well I had to pay for the part as well even tho it’s useless

Is this actually legal cuz I feel like every shop can do this and not actually do any repairs

That's like you going to McDonalds, ordering a cheeseburger and trying to get e refund because you didn't like it. Pay for their labor and take the parts you paid for.

This is why I want everything in writing. None of this verbal bull**** that will not hold in court.

There seriously needs to be an app or a state program that will let you know which repair shops are the best and reputable.

This^^ If you don't trust your mechanic, get everything in writing. My mechanic would be brutally honest with me and I trust his verbal commitment but then again he would let me know if its something he can't fix either.
