A new Astro Bot game will be revealed ‘in weeks’, it’s claimed

A new Astro Bot game for PlayStation 5 could be announced within weeks, it’s claimed.

That’s according to prolific game leaker Billlbil-Kun, who writes on Deallabs that they’ve heard the title could be called simply, ‘Astro Bot’, and announced within the next 15 days.

“Among other information we have obtained, it seems that part of the game will be playable in an environment located in the heart of a desert,” they said.

“One of the new characters in this game would be a fennec fox in the form of a robot sharing some similarities with Astro.”

According to Billbil-Kun, the game will be released for PlayStation 5, as opposed to PlayStation VR like the previous full entry.

The last entry in the Astro series was 2020’s Astro’s Playroom, a 3D platformer which comes pre-loaded on every PS5 console.

While it’s a highly regarded game in its own right, the follow-up to 2018’s PlayStation VR game Astro Bot: Rescue Mission also served as a free tech demo for PS5’s DualSense controller.

Astro developer Team Asobi was spun off into its own standalone studio in 2021, after parent company Sony Interactive Entertainment dissolved Japan Studio, the historic PlayStation group it was previously a part of.

A job listing that same year suggested the Tokyo-based studio was working on a new 3D action game, and in 2022 the company said its next title would be its “biggest to date”.

Chances are Jimbo made this into a gaas lol.

But yeah, pretty keen. Astro was amazing and made amazing use of dual sense.

In for this game and the eventual Asobi studio shut down at the end of the year.

I don't see PS going the Xbox route.

I mean they already killed Japan Studio, Evolution studios, layoffs at Insomniac, Media Molecule was also having some big layoffs.

Layoffs at some good studios vs shutting down the studio that made your best game are very different things.
