Economic BOON!

God damn right.
Fact Check Team: Migrant influx causes budget stress for several major cities

WASHINGTON (TND) — The influx of migrants and asylum seekers at the southern border is causing budget stress for some of the nation’s largest cities.

According to the city’s latest government data, Denver has cared for more than 42,000 migrants in total. A report from the Common Sense Institute found that the costs – which include things like food, clothing, shelter and healthcare –are estimated to be between $216 million and $340 million since December of 2022.

Breaking down the numbers, Denver has spent more than $70 million on support services including food, transportation and housing; nearly $50 million on emergency department care and between $98 million and $222 million on education.

New York City spent $1.45 billion in FY 2023, mainly on housing and food for nearly 100,000 migrants. The city expects to spend more than $12 billion through 2024, according to the government website.

Chicago has spent around $400 million since 2022, according to the latest government data, most of which has gone towards a healthcare vendor called Favorite Healthcare Staffing to operate city-run shelters.

States are spending millions to transport migrants and asylum seekers to sanctuary cities

For context, a sanctuary policy limits cooperation with federal immigration authorities like failing to provide information about immigration status and limiting the length of immigration detainers, as the National Conference of State Legislatures notes.

Texas has transported over 105,000 migrants to sanctuary cities since 2022, per a press release from the Office of Governor Greg Abbott. They have sent migrants to Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago, Philadelphia, and New York City.

According to NPR, as of Jan. 24, 2024, Texas has spent over $148 million to bus migrants to these cities.

Last year, Florida set aside $12 million for migrant transportation, and state lawmakers in Arizona approved $8 million for migrant transportation just a few months ago.
The transporting of migrants has caused some controversy. For example, New York City Mayor Eric Adams has a $700 million lawsuit against 17 charter bus companies.

In implementing this 'bad faith' plan, there can be no doubt that the Defendants are liable under Section 149 for the costs of care for the at least tens of thousands of individuals they have already transported from Texas to New York City and any additional individuals they transport in the future. The cost of providing care for the at least 33, 600 people who the Defendants have already transported, or caused to be transported, to New York City is no less than approximately $708,000,000," the lawsuit reads

Catch that? The mayor of NYC says "We don't want you here! In fact we don't want you here so bad that I will literally sue the dogshiit out of bus companies that bring your illegal asses to my city!"

Boon!
It's a hot night. The mind races. You think about your knife: the only friend who hasn't betrayed you, the only friend who won't be dead by sunup. Sleep tight mates, in your quilted chambray night shirts.
