Tools you're too scared to use?

Any DIYcels here?
Only thing I can't get to grips with is an angle grinder. Not something I need much anyway but idk I've seen too many kickback accidents thanks to them. Chainsaws are a bit sketch as well

Yeah I don’t like when I have to bust out my grinder, and it’s just a 4.5” one. Make sure you have the right blade and you’ll be fine. Cut a bunch of metal last year and this year Ive been cutting plenty of concrete pavers (didn’t want to rent a concrete saw)

My hobbies usually only require Dremel work. I do a bit of cutting with one of those, but I always keep my head well away of the spinning axis. If one of those little blades shatters and goes straight in your eye it's over, everyone will call you One Eyed Jack

I bought one of these blade kits from amazon for my Dremel and put the biggest blade on just for fun to see how it would cut wood. It's made in China and I couldn't help think what if that blade suddenly snapped at 20,000 rpm. Only used it once to try, bought it for the novelty.

Was always a little nervous using a table saw in shop class. I'd be OK with that now but I don't have one. Rather not use a chainsaw.

What's nice with a grinder is if you slice your finger it doesn't bleed

It immediately gets cauterized

I’ve got pretty much every tool there is to have . I tell people they’re not your friend and want to hurt you . Table saw injuries are at 60K a year with half of them involving amputations.
I teach people how to use a table saw but break my own rules on occasion .

Kid cut tips of three fingers off on table saw

Didn't start screaming until he got to the stairwell

He fkd up tho ,didn't use the slide stick ,was trying to trim a piece he should have used a belt sander on
.was wearing a glove

Blade grabbed it and yanked him right in

The young kids man ,they just don't think

Best to get some quality safety goggles which you should have anyway, but that's not going to save one of those monsters slicing an artery

Yep. Always wear safety goggles. I would never use those Chinese blades for anything though. Too dangerous. Would rather use my oscillating tool with quality brand name blades.

It's pretty crazy how the teacher just let a bunch of 15 year olds piss about with table saws etc with absolute minimal safety training jfl

I'll use whatever. Just be smart about it. Though I will say I had a metal splinter go into my eye when using an angle grinder without eye protection, which was not smart.

Not scared but I always use caution using a bench grinder. My godfather died when the stone split and sent a fragment through his head, very srs.

Angle grinder? I did a substantial project with one and didn't feel that uneasy.

Getting under the car has to be my least favorite. Makes me nervous AF.

Not my favorite either, I always make sure to have fail saves in place, jack lock, ramps, stands, even a wheel if I take it off and have nothing else. Being on different car forums over the years I've read my share of stories where people got crushed by their own car.
Me caveman, put round things on bar, lift, pound chest.

My portable router is the worst imo. So many kickbacks and blowouts with the potential for it to fall onto your leg and destroy you. Using it as a table top is fine though. I also don’t like using my jointer much, also seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

If you’re uncomfortable with an angle grinder get a cutoff tool. Better suited for what a lot of people are using angle grinders for. I’ve never had an issue with one, I mainly use grinding discs they are pretty safe

Circular saw is pretty scary.

Also a tool you dont think would be is a belt sander. Those things get humming and are really hard to control.

chainsaw is always fun. A shaper though has a pretty good pucker factor. I make triple sure that everything is setup correctly before use.

I have one of the reverse table saws from my grandfather
I forget the name
basically it is like a 100 in 1 saw with a blade with no guard that you can rotate.
using it is asking to lose a finger

EDIT it is a radial arm saw
I have it in storage now. Not my picture

I do practice gun safety and analogous safety around other dangerous tools. They all warrant it. Unless you have a specific reason to use them, you ought to treat them with some care.

I don’t leave knives lying around or open dangerous things unless I need them.

Pretty sure I watched some random DIY video once which said that tool is responsible for the most amount of injuries thats why not many people use them anymore

Pro Toolsis probably the tool I'm most afraid to use.
I'd rather study to become a Neurosurgeon than use that again.
