The problem with Christianity

Is that they worship another man (Jesus)

The problems arise when you start asking about who jesus is..so let's dive into who jesus is

First of all, the new testament was written overwhelming by Saul (tarsus) also known as Paul in the western version

Paul never met Jesus. Paul never spoke with Jesus. He seemed to have learned about Jesus in meditation

There were major disagreements between James, the brother of Jesus and Paul
Paul was called to Jerusalem, which is where Jesus movement was based
And he was asked to take a cleansing bath by James. Paul did it. This is huge
For a couple of reasons, number one that is what one did to renounce their views
But Paul continued

So we see here that James , the brother of Jesus, was at complete disagreement with Paul
And made him take a bath.

So 1/2 the new testament are based off of a guy who said that Jesus, his own brother
Is not in any way affiliated with Paul, who defied Jesus

Leader-NOT a follower ..i am my own own crew

The degree to which someone judges or finds evil in another..he himself is guilty to the same degree...even if is unconsciously

The tyrant dies and his rule ends. The martyr dies and his rule begins

Religion is just a way for a small group of people to control the masses, and have convinced people that there is an eternal hellifre waiting for them if they mix fabrics, eat shellfish, or are gay.

James and Paul had disputes and it's evident throughout his letters
James was the leader for almost 30 years and there is nothing from him...kinda odd don't ya think

it is established in genesis that the lord most high appeared to abraham in human form and abraham washed his feet.

so with this being established in the first book of the bible, it is not crazy for christians to accept jesus as god or for rastas to accept hallie selassie as god.

Trinitarians are delusional and cherry pick the Greek to fit their agenda. The Hebrew scriptures, the idea of a Triune is pretty alien, and there's plenty of rabbinical literature that clearly shows how they view "Satan", the "Holy Spirit" and "Yahweh".

Bart Ehrman has some good writing on the Trinity itself in the early church and the problems and inconsistencies between the gospels.

Also, there's another glaring issue with the Bible and Christianity in that Yahweh has inconsistent morality. The only way a Christian can really run apologism for this is if they subscribe to Divine Command Theory which is frankly unhinged lunacy. In short, whatever "God" does is Good, even if he's doing the same thing he deemed "Bad" yesterday.

I've seen some of his stuff like his debates vs William Lane Craig
I have a book by him which I never really read and maybe I'll pick it up. It's called "Misquoting Jesus"

I tend to feel a bit like you however, I do feel it's needed and do believe we would eventually become a lawless debauchery without it. I personally see religion much like chemotherapy...on its own, it is poison but when there is a cancer prevelant...it's a means to an end. I believe the evil nature of man (Although I don't believe in good and evil) is that cancer.

This is a good little interaction with Craig and exploring that philosophy. Specifically about the Israelites and their genocide in the promised land killing men, women and children.

Craig's position is that:

1. God sets the standards for what is moral.
2. Any commandment from God is therefore moral.

That's it, it literally doesn't matter about anything else.

Or are you specifically talking about Trinitarian dogma?

I didn't really have a point but was gonna read that book now lol I forgot I had it.

I think the concept of abrogation applies maybe in some cases. I guess depends the context. I'm not a Christian (or any -ism). I believe there's a God but still doing research tbh.

When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

I don't think it really does because you're still left with the same issue of Yahweh setting the standards for morality in a manner in which whatever he does in that particular moment is correct and moral. He could commit something we would deem as "good" one moment, and "bad" in another, and both would actually be "good" and "just" and "moral" because it is Yahweh that is doing or has commanded it.

The idea itself is philosophically coherent. The large issue for me though is that from my human perspective, if this Yahweh exists, I "know" what is right and wrong. As do my neighbors, and my community, and my country. We have standards, we generally structure society with a view that morality is objective. So when I see Yahweh committing and command acts of evil, I'm not going to be a cheerleader for that and given the choice, would rather have my existence end when I die because I'm not fond of the idea of a psychopathic God.

Abrogating the OT or having the law be fulfilled doesn't really alter the fact that these things occurred and were commanded by Yahweh (apparently).

Are you at all familiar with some of the Gnostic writings? They address this issue with Yahweh and the Demiurge. It's fascinating really.

I also recommend Bart Ehrman's works. He also discusses the Trinity and how it made its way into Christian dogma over the centuries.

This is worth looking at too -https://www.degruyter.com/document/d...1/html?lang=en

It discusses Yahweh and his likely origins. Yahweh predates the "Hebrews" by quite a bit and it appears they were polytheistic and eventually become monotheistic over the centuries.

100%....also, not basing your decency on a reward/punishment scale...

But it's not quite that simple imo...im personally a Nihilist so it's all voodoo to me but I can't deny the fact that our nation is based on Christian principles and upheld by Christian law. Again...not perfect but a means to an end. Just my personal beliefs.
