I could maybe tolerate this lifestyle for a couple months, but it would get really old after a while. Maybe if you lived in a low cost of living location for Summer/Spring/Fall and went out to California for Winter this would be tolerable. But I wouldn't want to be homeless in California for too long.

I could do that in Pa too in the National Forest. In fact, i've been thinkin about it alot lately. I know spots very few ppl know with awesome views, flat and no one within miles. I could get a job making half of what i do now and still bank more living out of a decent camper. water is easily accessible, small generator/solar set up and I would be set. Winter i'd go south and try and do the same. till i wanna retire. If i didn't have kids still in school it would already be done.

They removed this feature from newer Prius models. The engine remains off almost all the time, turns on for 5 minutes like once every 30 minutes and charges the hybrid battery, and the heating runs off the hybrid battery. This is why those years of the Prius are EXTREMELY EXTREMELY popular among Campers. Many Campers lift them and put all terrain tires on them to have light offload capability.

This could only be done in Pismo lol. Very few beaches in CA allow you to drive on them, and almost all certainly don't allow for you to stay the night.

Feasible I guess if you are cool being stuck in that tourist town for who knows how many years until you believe you are set. But with the amount of weekend tourists who go out there all the time, and it being the most accessible dunes for most of the state, it gets busy af with offroaders and beach campers.

The Oceano dunes are also constantly being fought over, with the community wanting to keep it open for offroaders, but the local politicians wanting to shut it down.
