Anyone ever thought about joining the Amish?

When I was in Nashville last month we went to the Amish community in Kentucky. And man...what a peaceful life they seemed to have. the women wore long dresses, no cell phones, families riding around with 2-3 kids in their horse and buggy. saw women and young girls out in the fields picking crops. men busy doing their jobs. they are basically oblivious to all the drama of the outside world...all the arguing and fighting we do yet get nowhere.

While I appreciate their traditional lifestyle, it's just far too boring to consider. Clown world is more entertaining

But if your kids grow up that way, they won't know the other side.

But it's still too boring. A person has other ways to shelter their kids

Biggest concern would be access to hospital and doctors if sh*t hit the van. Would gladly spend the rest of my years Amish if it meant having a loyal, loving, supportive innocent Amish wife to be with.

As someone who has no interest in joining the work force. Why are you interested in doing manual labor dawn until dusk six days per week with no modern amenities?

Someone said there's sex abuse in the Amish community. Wonder how much it is. Seems they do live great lives.

Manual labor honestly sounds fun tbh. Way different than mundane tasks. Like you just do the chit with your hands, any thinking involved is practical. Only thing that would get to me would be the humidity.

You don't have to join an Amish community to become a tradesman.

In theory I like the idea of the Amish. Especially the branches that are more modern. Houses with AC. Pickup trucks. Tractors. Cell Phones. Utilizes hospitals/doctors. Etc.

But if you aren't born into it good luck adapting.

Yeah but the goal is escaping clown world. Tradesmen still gotta deal with that and with more women trying to be trades the frontier is slowly eroding.

good point about the deplorables as example of cultural difference between tradie lifestyle and the Amish. Deplorables cause decent men to vote Kamala

since the Amish are religious folks they understand the DANGERS of Gender Desegregation and how it's best if women keep with women folk and men with men folk and none of that "work-wife/husband" temptation

they seem to have a SMART system of managing the nest. They recognize that no matter how hard you try, you can't control what another person wants to do past puberty stage. So they give their younglings the CHOICE to go out into the world and decide for themselves the life they wish to live. If they choose "the World" then the Parents simply "let go".......or they can choose to live the life like the parents and so then there can be a peaceful relationship without all the back and forth manipulation between offspring/parent each trying to impose their will on the other.

It all seems very reasonable and best for everyone. When the youths are young they learn valuable trades in their Amish upbringing....they have "skill in the hands" which will enable them to survive. In the World or in the Amish community.
