Is it strange that the five fastest men in history all competed in the same era?

Usain Bolt, Tyson Gay, Yohan Blake, Asafa Powell & Justin Gatlin. And the nine fastest 100m times were all recorded between September 2007 and August 2012. Only a five year period. What are the odds of that, fellas? To have such a high level of achievement in a sport so densely concentrated into a a relatively short span of time? I don't know. Seems slightly askew to me. I'm just not sure what to make of it.

But they haven't. They peaked between '07 & '12.

It blows my mind how everyone on that list has been popped for doping except Bolt. Really, I’m supposed to believe Yohan was injecting PEDs in one room while Bolt was in the other room being all natty and chit doing the Samba?

Make no mistake, all the top sprinters are cheating. Its not a secret within sprint circles that its almost impossible to run under 10 seconds clean. Bolt probably could but he also cheated to do 9.58.

He was not actually tested much and from what I have read it was never off season and unexpected. He was the cash cow of sprinting so had special privileges.

There has never been a natty who can run the 100 under 10 and bolt is no exception.

It’s not “the track and shoes”
We seem to be experimenting some technological differences.

1) You’re overcounting coincidences because the same people were doing them.

2) Blake and Ghey were glowing, Bolt did most of the other impressive times.

Messi vs Ronaldo

Rafa, Federer, Djokovic, Serena

LeBron

London 2012

Chelsea CL win in Munich

Sport really peaked during that era.

i saw some clip that said over the last 80 or whatever years the fastest 100m times in 2024 have increased by about 0.5 seconds…i know it's a game of split seconds but still kinda crazy given all the advancement over 80 years. makes you wonder if those dudes 80 or 90 years ago would've ran right along with todays guys given similar shoes/track surface/nutrition/training, etc.

Wouldn't it be awkward if PEDs were officially allowed in the Olympics and the records didn't change?

well i suspected something is up with the PED testing between then and now…..

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doping..._Olympic_Games

look how many positives they had in 2004 vs 2008….. 2008 is like 10x more drug testing failures. then look at 2012 and its maybe double that of 2008. So i imagine they had to adjust the way they do things and its harder to pass and they cant take the same regime they used to.

Just watch the races. They aren’t even out of breath at the end of a world record setting race. No huffing or puffing.

Bolt is light years ahead of them all.

In many finals he wasn't even pushing it to the max. The rivals were at 100%.

Still, it's quite amusing watching how he compares against true purebred racing stock…

see that makes sense. they still use peds but the golden age is over and the harder testing makes them unable to use their top regimen from the past. Theyre competing over 1/100th of a second so major changes that interrupt their PED protocol can make a massive change to their times.

My suspicion was that they were all using something new that hadn't yet been picked up by the testing. The drugs are always ahead of the tests. Seems reasonable. But I'm no expert though.

Yep, it was originally Haematological testing-it was catching out cycling dopers mostly & in athletics it was nearly always distance runners-mostly EPO etc.
