thinking about signing up for a judo/BJJ gym this week

i went years ago to BJJ gym with another buddy when i lived in another state. Iwent for about a year maybe once or twice a month. Thinking about signing up again. I don't want to go super hardcore because i m 37 and dont want more injuries to prevent me from weightlifting. I hope it would let me meet some cool people. thoughts? any advice?

If you’re into it, then do it. But make sure you can still goto work if you get injured. My buddy was out of work 6-8 weeks when someone took his ankle to snap city. If you can’t continue working/getting paid with an injury, then don’t do it.

I started BJJ about a year ago at age 37. I go 2-3 times a week as my work schedule allows. Overall I'm glad I started and like it a lot. Go in to it knowing you will get injured, it's just the nature of the sport. I have thankfully only had small injuries. I've sprained a few fingers, tweaked my back, and took a knee to my balls that had me sidelined for a few days. It's a really good workout and I feel awesome after every sparing session, even if I just got my ass kicked.

Actually he sounds like every single brown belt and up.

Fact is somone is always out with a fuked up knee/shoulder injury or waiting for surgery or recovering from surgery.

Then they sound like OP afterwards.

What combat sport do you do fgt?
We seem to be experimenting some technological differences.

I don't do MMA or BJJ, I get asked at my regular commercial gym if I do MMA/BJJ a lot. There are people that do BJJ that occasionally comes to my regular gym and they ask where I train BJJ. I don't. I do train flexibility….a lot. Which I guess is a part of BJJ. You can start that now, get your splits and pancake. I guess a hard-hitting high kick from someone that can actually do splits and has strength there will be much more damaging than someone that is inflexible (edit: they can barely get their leg up there, never mind having any power behind it). Flexibility (strength in a range…..end range of motion) is a major part of my training, not just a side thing.

You've been sounding like a bitch lately, not gonna lie.

I think some combat sports along with some therapy is needed to get you out of your insecure pussy phase.

SRS.

i've been doing alot of work on my mind. Reading books about cbt/thoughts, mediation, journaling, venting on the misc, etc. I believe this will count as "therapy" to some extent. So what if I m having a hard time the past couple weeks. Just came out of a chit break up.

Yeah the combat sports will hopefully put me around a good group of bros.

It absolutely will if you're flexible enough to fire off a head kick.

Some people can't bring their knee up very high, and knees in the clinch are huge in any competition.

I think flexibility in BJJ is even more important than Muay Thai.

Dingleberry don't know how to fight, lulz.
