I don’t understand the D.C. statehood movement. I mean I know they want to add 2 more Democrat senators, but they should just be transparent about it instead of hiding behind the representation argument. The most logical way for residents of D.C. to achieve representation is not statehood. It is to cede the majority of D.C. back to Maryland with the exception of the federal buildings, which would remain a federal district. That way MD gets a 600k boost in population, at least one new House district, we don’t have to change the flag, and everyone is happy.

This already happened on the Virginia side in the 1800s.



I see no reason why the same thing can’t be done on the MD side today.
