Yeah I once bought some tubs of greek yogurt on sale because they were 2 days away from the exp date. about 2 months later I was still going through them.

I had some eggs finally start to turn like 3 weeks after the exp date, too.

I'm sure the food industry knows a lot of people out there throw out perfectly good food thinking it's gone bad, and will come back and buy another one soon

Just smell test everything. The nose knows. The entire reason it exists is to detect spoiled things so you don't eat them.

I hate to think what is in your milk for it to last that long, milk in New Zealand goes rotten not long after expiry. Wait, you bought milk early june, but it didn't expire until last month? That has to be UHT milk. Gross.

Our noses ain't that great at detecting rotten food, story time: Years ago i got sick with some bug and i couldn't eat anything for about 28 days, i was having maybe a glass of orange juice a day. Absolutely miserable. Right at the end of the 28 days just before my appetite returned i got a super sensitive sense of smell, some internal gene must have got flipped due to starvation. Dogs are correct, everyone has a unique smell to them, and i could smell individual people sitting in other rooms. It was interesting but a bit nasty frankly.

I was staying with a girl and every time she left the lounge and opened the fridge in the kitchen (10m/33ft away) i could smell some food was starting to smell off/rotten. She couldn't smell it at all from right in front of the fridge, i could strongly smell it from 32ft away. It took her two days to faintly start smelling it, and i was pretty much gagging at this point. Food goes rotten *days* before we start to smell it.

Anyways not long after that i got my appetite back and the super smell disappeared, thank fuk. As a side note the gym gains after 28 days of starvation were beastly, it was like having real life cheat codes.

Usually when I realize I forgot about the eggs in the back of my fridge I'll just lay down some chicken feed and a little hay in the corner and go back to watching friends on tbs. A few weeks later I'll have fresh eggs and make a denver omelet or something. My milk is usually a few days old though and I have to run to the store to add to my omelet to make sure it isn't flat.

Nothing in a can ever expires. As long as the can hasn't started to swell it's still good.

I read somewhere that scientist back in the 80's opened up some canned meat from 1900 and the meat was still good.

Same with anything in pill form. The FDA says most drugs are still good even 15 years later.

I find milk and meat are really the only things that goes off before or on the expiry date everything else last weeks if not months.
