Never been to Maine but can confirm Vermont is extremely beautiful. You’ll have no problems, New England is the most socially liberal part of the country.

I've always wanted to go too, not necessarily in fall, but just in general. It's the only part of the country I've never been to.

It is infested in the easy to get areas
If you need to hike you will not see many but on peaks where you can drive it is 50% Indians.
They love strolling around

Example climb Mt Washington, in NH
At the base will be Indians
Climbing up will be mostly white people
At the top will be Indians because they drove up or took the train

I grew up where we had a vacation home in Wilmongton, VT. Every weekend in the fall/winter has tons of Jets fan visiting for the weekend from NY. The weather/scenery is incredible also that time of year.

the LEFTcoast Living JapGal GF and I vacationed in Maine during Autumn, had a marvelous time taking in the sites and Fall Foliage, loved it there but more Japs on the LEFTcoast so it's a better fit for us

The tax rate is insane if you make over 120k
If you make under 120k they give you credit for that and you pay a lower rate for property tax
I sold it because it was $980 a month in tax for a modest place that I visited one weekend a month
