Sibling "appoints" himself as trustee.

At first he said there was a will with our names on it. No will so far. Then he says he a trustee is better and that he was "appointed" trustee.

What are my options?

Hire a lawyer. Srs.

Edit - Talk to him more first obviously. Find out more.

If you cant work it out with him, hire a lawyer. A lawyer for something like this wouldn't be too expensive.

I'm just wanting more information on the trustee vs will. Because he's switching his argument to trustee now instead of a will. Its best to not go the legal route and just work everything in house.

At the very least you should discuss this with a lawyer and not misc, you could potentially get screwed completely. Is there some back story to this, tunafishha?

The backstory is, the eldest sibling says, "he aint making no money but is worth 1million in asset", wants to keep all the assets to himself and give us a "cut" when everything gets liquidated. I've seen what they consider a "cut" before so no way am I going to leave it to them this time. Also me being the one with the least assets out of all siblings, I will absorb most of my father's assets. We're talking a million to 1 in asset difference.

So far, I'm thinking to just put all of our siblings names on the deeds for the houses as a (tic) tenancy in common where I get majority ownership and cut when the assets get liquidated. Or just give them some major assets and not deal with none of this BS.

He can't do that because it's not legal. If no one was made in charge of the estate you need to get a lawyer. We have 5 siblings in my family. My parents made a will and asked each of us if there was anything one thing special that we wanted when they passed. (Example: I will be getting my mom's wedding band and engagement ring.) My sister is in charge of my parents estate and everything (besides that one special item that each of us will get) will be divided equally between all our siblings when everything is said and done.

I haven't been presented any documents yet. But he says trustee is better since if my fathers assets get liquidated, he won't have to pay back medical bills or deal with taxes, but I believe Medicare was paying for most of his hospital bills at the time. I have no clue what a trustee is but understand somewhat what a will is.

I get that Ms Kimm but the will was not possible to write while my father was alive. My father become very stubborn as he got sicker and he didn't want to give up any assets as he felt he would get better. So he passed without a will or "trustee". All we have is ourselves now.

I get that Ms Kimm but the will was not possible to write while my father was alive. My father become very stubborn as he got sicker and he didn't want to give up any assets as he felt he would get better. So he passed without a will or "trustee". All we have is ourselves now.
So very sorry for your loss. This kind of stuff is awful and I've seen it ruin relationships with siblings.

Bro, most smart people with money create trusts for themselves and dump all their assets in the trust, and as part of that trust when they die certain assets go to certain people, and a trustee is appointed to make sure that the assets are distributed according to the will and trust. So this all sounds very common and legit, just calm down and ask for the paperwork just for your records. Find out who the estate attorney is and ask them for a copy if you aren't comfortable asking a family member.

With the absence of an appointed executor by your father, your best recourse is to 100 percent go the legal route
You need a middle man with no skin in the game to divide chit fairly and legally with no emotion or self serving interests
I was appointed executor by my step father when he passed, so there was no argument on who was in charge of dividing the assets between my siblings and myself. A shame your dad did not do the same, he must have known his assets cannot be taken away from him while he was alive right? Was he FOB and not aware on how things work in the west?
