Upcoming movie "Reagan" (Friday is release date)
Any thoughts? Anyone looking forward to it? Do you think it'll flop?
The cast seems to be right-wingers, and from what I hear, the movie is pro-Reagan. So that sounds good (though pro-Reagan movies might not get a fair shake with a lot of critics)
However, there are certain details that point to a flop .. the director doesn't have a good track record (his biggest hits are 3 Ninjas: High Noon and Bratz); the movie was in development hell for 4 years for some reason (nobody wanted to take up a movie about a former President?); and a small studio is releasing the movie.
Plus … the most glaring issue is that Dennis Quaid , sorry to say, just doesn't look like The Gipper.

I never understood conservatives obsession with Reagan. Wasn’t he a globalist pro-amnesty MIC servant cuck?
As far as 20th century Republican Presidents go, I prefer Nixon, but none of them come close to Trump.

According to Gallup polling, Trump will be as beloved as Reagan is now once generational turnover occurs

The budget is only $25 million, so hopefully the studios can get a profit, even if it doesn't reach $100 mil at the box office

The preview trailer looked good. I'll have to watch.
Saw this video of Reagan recently telling a joke. He always was a good comedian.

some early reviews
Slant Magazine: https://www.slantmagazine.com/film/r...-dennis-quaid/
They give it 0 stars. Their criticism is that the movie, basically, is too pro-Reagan and too religious. So I take this review with a grain of salt; the reviewer is likely a woke leftist
Washington Post: https://www.washingtonpost.com/enter...-movie-review/
They give it 1.5 stars out of 4. Their criticism is that the movie doesn't cover enough historical details at length, such as the Iran-Contra affair, his acting career, his domestic policies, and the 1981 air traffick controllers strike. The review also doesn't approve of how the movie unfavorably casts Reagan's detractors as "screaming hippie protesters."

It's been 3 years since I've been in a theatre but I'm going for this one. As someone who grew up during that time I'm looking forward to it. Of course the critics will bash it. it won't have trannies, homos, girl power or any of the other woke crap. Hollywood has put out garbage the past decade.

Another review:
https://keithandthemovies.com/2024/0...w-reagan-2024/
3.5 / 5.0 stars
This review says that the movie probably tries to cover too much, as the movie tries to condense 90+ years into 2 hours. The review says that Quaid is solid in this movie though (none of the early reviews seem to trash Quaid's performance …. yet)

im still gonna watch it, but the question is will I wait for it to be streamed or go to the movies for it.. it would have to get outstanding reviews from people (not critics) for me to pay the box office ticket.

They should get Trump to say it's a great movie. That will get some people in theaters. Or try to do that whole church word of mouth thing that Sound of Freedom did.
I think people that like Reagan are so weary of Hollywood and won't want to go see what they think will be an anti-Regan movie.
Lefties that hate Reagan obviously won't go to see it.

released today
I was hoping NYPost would release a review, as I want to feel they can give a fair review unlike many of the liberal publications. But NYPost hasn't released one yet
Anyways - the movie has a low Rotten Tomatoes score: 25% after 24 professional reviews. I've read most of the reviews. The main criticism is that the movie deifies Reagan and glosses over his failings. The critics also target Jon Voight's Russian accent as well as the movie's cliffnotes account of Reagan's life (though the movie already runs at a little over 2 hrs)
The audience score is good, though there are just 51 reviews. I think audience score might be more reliable than the critics for this movie, as a lot of the critics probably don't want to see or hear anything so pro-Reagan

Among new releases, “Reagan” could lead with $5 million to $7 million over the four-day period.
https://variety.com/2024/film/box-of...d-1236119782/?
The budget is $25 million. I hope they get a profit, in spite of bad reviews

As expected, this movie is playing to the middle of the country with ICON Cinema in Edmond, OK the top grossing location so far this weekend with $10K. The South is also dominant for the Sean McNamara-directed movie. Men/women split is 51%/49% with a 77% definite recommend from audiences. Those over 35 years of age numbered 87% with the largest demo being the 55+ crowd at 63%. Caucasians numbered 78%, Latino and Hispanic were 13%, Black moviegoers were 1% of ticket buyers with others being 2%.

Has anyone seen it yet?
I haven’t been to a theater in about 7 years, so I want to make sure it’s worth going to if I decide to go
