Here's some photos from a weekend of on and offroad exploring.
Mirin the fuk out of that gravel bike mane. I kinda wish I'd bought a CX/Gravel bike instead of my road bike.

May have bought a new project bike, something completely different that you don't often see ITT. Will post pics when I have some bits.
SOOOOO DAMN CLOSE TO 10k! I'd like to get it before the big ride in may, only ~500 feet away!

Spoiler!

Regardless, it was BEAUTIFUL out today!

Probably stupid of me to even mention this... but oddly enough, I have these MONSTER energy surges aftereating oranges..It sounds so stupid, usually every pre training meal is the same (.5 box of cereal, with 4-5 waffles and peanut butter with bananas/apples) but for WHATEVER silly reason, whenever I throw in an orange, it feels like energy is never ending...

Anyone ever feel anything similar?
If you had said vitamin C it would be worth investigating. But I can't see that there's enough of anything in an orange to make a difference. Must be psychological?

Speaking of oranges, the oranges in FL taste better than the ones in CA, even though FL imports them (eating variety - naval) from CA? Florida's oranges are juice oranges.

I've thought of all options, and I literally have kept everything the same with the exception of the oranges.. I considered the fact that I probably consumed about 7-8k calories yesterday.. but I've had big days of eating in the past and have felt like GARBAGE.

*shrug* Guess I gotta try it again! lol

I have the High 5 ones, the caffeine "plus" ones taste a bit bitter but the normal ones are pretty nice.

Suck one down every 30-40mins on a longer ride keeps me topped up. Placebo or not who knows, but carbs is carbs.

I think I order mine online. Can't remember the company but as I recall they had high marks. Anyway, the gel was chucks with the consistency of clabbered milk. It wouldn't dissolve, and the palatability was quite gross as I recall.

Now John, we know better than that. Not all carbs are created equal: High-glycemic vs low-glycemic vs complex carbs vs simple.

It's actually just a road bike that I really should not be riding on offroad stuff but I do anyway

I'm gonna pick up an aluminum frame disc brake setup for my exploring from now on, not worth trashing $2500 wheels cause I like to pretend im mountain biking.

I would have rather carried the bike on my back than ride those wheels off-road.

Yeah I hear you, they're pretty durable though and I was smart. The dirt is just too alluring.

My connection is leaving Fuji in the next few months so I think i'm just going to pull the trigger on an SL 1.3 Disc, and run tubeless 28's so this will be my gravel and fire road ripper. Maybe get a nicer set of wheels to use when i'll be on-road only.

Only 16.xx lbs for this in Disc, pretty sweet.

I really need to learn how to ride gravel... threw some 28s on my alum defy this past weekend..

The ride has ~40 miles of gravel (out of the 142 miles) So I better start I guess, lmao.

Finally got myself a mountain bike over the weekend. 2013 Salsa Mamasita off craigslist. From what little I know I think it's a nice enough bike that I won't need or want to go out and upgrade right away after I get into it. Thoughts?

I've never actually mountain biked before, just thought it looked fun. Any advice for getting started? There's some pretty flat trails in the river valleys around here so I think I'm just gonna go out there and jump in headfirst and see how I do.

The biggest thing is staying relaxed, especially your shoulders and hands. Your bikes gonna track a few inches in each direction and it's best to just go with it.

Also make sure to stay centered over the bike and weight the hell out of your outside foot in corners.

Also also don't stand up climbing gravel your rear wheel will just spin and you'll find your chest slamming into your bars

I was at the bike shop today picking up my new shoes and I test rode a Supersix Evo and a CAAD12. Both had 105 I believe. The guy was saying that the CAAD12 was 90-95% of the supersix and that I had to try it.

They were both sweet. I think the Supersix was a bit more compliant. Both were equally stiff and nice while really cranking on it even though I'm heavy AF.

The Evo was a 58 and the CAAD was a 56. I'm not sure what size I'd get. I kind of liked the more compact feel of the 56 but I'd need a longer stem. I'm 6'1" so wisdom probably says a 58 but you see all these 6-6'1" pros riding 56's now.

I rode gravel on my 23mm gators 3 times now. First time was really sketchy I felt like I was on ice. Second time I felt more confident but still afraid of getting the front tire stuck in a groove. Third time I felt bad ass on it - had a tailwind and just let it rip. I imagine 28's would help a little, but not a ton.

I'd ditch the clip ins for a couple months imo.

Couple things you could do to it but meh.

Chain drops will be an issue most likely. New Steeze is a Narrow wide chain ring followed by a OneUp cassette mod.

Thanks for the 2 cents gentleman. Hard to take time off the bike for me atm, gravel riding seems like even more fun!

If you haven't had a cut out saddle and get soreness, its going to be great. I love my ISM cut-out vs. my old hard Selle. My stuff would go numb after 30 mins on my Wahoo Kickr (no thx).

Agree, the CAAD12 105 is such a steal. SuperSix if you want Carbon.
