Lendl bailed twice on Murray when he was on the slide so you've got to wonder how long he's going to stick around if he's not winning big tournaments because it starts to hurt his reputation as a coach.

And looking at it from Zverev's perspective it must surely ramp up the pressure because with each loss you'd be thinking he's not going to hang around. That's where a lower profile coach would be more reassuring. Like Toni with Nadal for all those years, Vajda with Novak, and even Ljubicic with Federer, those guys were never going to run off and coach someone else. You can tell they felt very fortunate to have that gig with a very successful player. It's not like that with Lendl.

Djokovic vs Coric final

Will be interesting to see how the original matches up with the imitation.

Federer's return was absolute garbage today.

Amazing mid year turnaround from Novak. If he wins tomorrow he'll be 28-1 since Wimbledon.

I wouldn't count on it. Coric is a poor mans Djokovic in the sense that Dmitrov is a poor mans Federer. When has Dmitrov ever given Federer a match?

What a difference confidence makes. He's saying all the right things and being polite in press conferences but you can see the confidence he had in 2015 when he was belting the Top 10 30+ times.



Looks like a man possessed going after that No. 1 ranking and I can't remember Nadal ever racking up more points at this time of year than Djokovic so if he wins Shanghai and only trails by around 200 points it's really hard to see any other outcome.

He won't admit it but I get the feeling he regrets playing Laver Cup instead of Beijing where he's won 6x and I think is undefeated there.

Basel/Vienna (500) — can't see Nadal entered in either but could always take a WC
Paris (1000) 4x champ — Nadal hasn't been past the semis in 10 years but with the competition right now I see no reason he couldn't reach the final
ATP Finals (1300-1500) 5x champ — wouldn't write him off but winning seems unlikely

Coric saved 3 MPs down 0-40 making Novak serve it out. Played like a Top 5 player this week and showed more heart than Zverev.

Kind of relieved Federer didn't have to take another beating today. Nadal will be glad he skipped this one.

Agreed, can't hate on a guy who has been living in Fed and Nadal's shadow since the beginning. Doesn't get the support that both of them get and has also dealt with some personal mental crap.

Want him to make a run in 2019 and maybe surpass Nadal as GOAT #2.

How old is he right now? 31? If he stays healthy for another 4-5 years he could probably catch BOTH Rafa and Fed. Scary.

Coric looked good. Guy is 21yrs old. If he continues to improve, he'll be a contender in 1-2yrs.

Novak is looking scary good right now. YE#1 is a given. He's definitely a player that thrives on wins/confidence. He is obviously a favorite at the AO. But again, you never know. Injuries happen, he could suffer a loss, and lose momentum.

I do honestly hope some of the young guns can step up now, otherwise tennis is gonna be really boring watching Novak clean up.

Tsitsipas, Shapo, Coric, Medvedev, Tiafoe...these guys need to step up.

Expecting him to win another 6-7 is a stretch but considering the state of the competition he would like his chances.

If he pulls even with Nadal he wins that debate for obvious reasons. For a long time many Nadal fans put Rafa ahead of Federer because of the H2H so they've got to apply the same standard with Djokovic who went on two 7-0 runs against him in 2011-2012 and 2015-2016 the latter without dropping a set. Djokovic is 20-9 vs. Nadal since 2011 with only 2 losses off clay (2013) and 0 in the last 5 years.



If he gets to 17 especially if he has another 3 slam season or wins RG again and Federer is on 20 I'd give the edge to Djokovic just because for nearly all of his slams he had to go through the other 3 plus that ridiculous 58-25 H2H against them since 2011. Extra points for winning 4 slams in a row. He's been strong in seasons from start to finish winning the AO and ATP Finals. 14 consecutive slam SFs is another very impressive stat. Lastly 31–5 vs. Top 10 in 2015 is insane.

Agreed. He said he played with no fear or expectations against Federer just like in Halle. He's really composed and Djokovic said he works harder than anyone. I think he's a better player than Zverev and in time the ranking should reflect that.



I guess the only issue with some of these players is they get really motivated when they're the underdog with no pressure against legends past their prime but the real test is week in week out being the favorite winning matches they're expected to win.

If they’re going to do it, why not just do it at 6-all? Wimbledon finally deciding to break their tradition but they still have to be a little different.

Which match?

Djokovic-Nadal ended at 10-8.And even if they had a tiebreak at 6-6 tiebreaks generally favor the player who's serving well and Djokovic was serving better. Nadal statistically wins the highest % of points on return but that stat is inflated by his clay dominance. On grass Djokovic has a better serve and better return. It's just a bad matchup for Nadal and if that match happened now it probably doesn't go to 5.

Anderson-Federer went to 13-11. And of course that ridiculous 26-24 servebot semi is the reason they did this.

Nadal's match against Muller went to 15-13. Even with the inferior serve I guess the added pressure in a tiebreak for Muller might have helped him but he would have faced Cilic in the QF > Querrey > Federer (didn't drop a set and went 4-0 against him in 2017).

It simply wasn't meant to happen. I genuinely think Rafa has the worse luck when it comes to slams. All I wish is for him to come back 100% healthy and regain his confidence, this Djoker ain't as good as people are hyping him up to be, I like Rafa's chances to turn the rivalry in 2019.
