At that point, I realized I had an unhealthy attachment to never losing size - and the decision I made was very difficult.. to consciously focus on goals other than size. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made, even though it was really tough to let go at the time.
I'm aware that I shouldn't project my own experiences onto others, but I suspect that many guys reach a similar place in lifting. You can still set goals, you can go hard ("turn it up to 10"), you can feel accomplished, you can look amazing (although it's obviously harder) - all of those things, but just letting go of the raw # on the weight and being 'massive while lean'.
So the question is, why is the # you lift, and being massive while lean, so important to somebody?
If you're competing at elite levels of sports/bodybuilding, then it's a different discussion.

For me personally, I do not focus on numbers. Of course they go up but that's not the driving force. I look up to the classic guys like Chris Bumstead and realize if I ever want something like that it's not going to happen naturally. I also plan to compete possibly next year after I've done a long bulk (which started a few weeks ago).

I don't look at you and ask why you decided to stay natural because that was your own decision. Some guys look for the easy way out with gear and they do not last. They burn out faster than anyone else.So the question is, why is the # you lift, and being massive while lean, so important to somebody?

Ye, I can see some exceptions there for those that have really poor genetics and may struggle with lifting in general without supplementation. I still lean conservatively on messing with the body with such substances though, and would advise other avenues (e.g nutrition, determining root cause of one's lack of satisfaction etc.) until exhausted. What you describe also sounds like maybe medical/health condition territory. Thanks for the discussion though, repped.
