All that said I'm all ears for details on a base universal system, so long as it doesn't try to be a government monopoly like some mouthbreather psychopaths in government want. We have Medicaid for poor people, free healthcare for current and former government employees, heavily subsidized healthcare for the 20% of Americans in Medicare, so middle class people who are most of the economy and are already paying for those other people may as well have a base level access. Universal healthcare for the basics, private insurance for beyond that seems reasonable. And remove the tether from private health insurance and jobs, make it all individual/family based.
