So I just heard from a doctor on the frontlines in Seattle.. what he said was pretty interesting.

So some of us already know, but there are two strains of the virus. One is a really bad strain, and one is a mild strain.

Italy, China, and parts of the US (Washington, NY, Cali) that are hit pretty badly got the bad strain.

What he said was that the younger people getting really sick are the ones who got the bad strain. At his hospital the youngest is 24, with the next youngest being 45. Furthermore he said that if an older person gets the bad strain.. they're pretty much done for, because of heart attacks and multiple organ failure. He also said they are doing clinical trials starting tomorrow for the potential cures that have been presented.

It seems to add up.

See this is the thing that still sort of amazes me. If 15-20% of cases are not mild, aka severe, how is that not still a big deal? I mean the reported R0 is around 3. And we are suspecting a solid half of all infections are asymptomatic? If we let it run its course and it is allowed to infect a majority of our population, that math is still grim. We don't need to be infighting about the details to be on the same page that its serious and we aren't over reacting.

Right?!

People also under estimate what moderate and severe mean in this context. Even moderate doesn't mean yeah I think I'll call off work today I'm a little under the weather.

I think one thing that would get some people to wrap their heads around just exactly how badly this could go, is to start talking hospitalization rates.

Oh and be honest about mild vs severe or worse cases, not lying about it like that guy in that stupid article

im not debating that it’s not severe

I’m saying less than 1% of those tested and 10-15% of confirmed cases can be true

Both give you different perspectives

Also, only 15-25% are community transmission, another perspective

The combination of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin to treat the coronavirus has not been proven safe and effective through large scale clinical trials. There is only anecdotal evidence from case reports in countries overseas. Promising them as miracle drugs gives false hope......hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) and azithromycin taken together affects the QT interval of your heart and can lead to arrhythmias and sudden death, especially if you are taking other meds or have a heart condition.

Absolutely. That statement can absolutely be true. It's also not a temporal statement. I.e. If you test 1 month in, what you are saying is valid for that round of testing. If you test again in a month, and now someone who previously tested negative tests positive (they got infected in the second month), what does that do to your data? It's a snapshot in time. Not a complete picture of the dust after it's settled.
