is it really that crazy though? Trump spent a considerable amount of time over the past year talking about teaming up with a Russia to take out ISIS and how ISIS was the main enemy. I don't think it's totally unreasonable to think that Assad thought he had a green light to do whatever he wanted.

Another crazy thought I had was that maybe Russia goaded Assad into using the chemical weapons to see how Trump administration would react.

With regard to likelihood of Assad being behind chemical weapons or not he's used chemical weapons in more ineffective ways in the form of chlorine attacks, AFTER he agreed to eliminate all chemical munitions, and this was confirmed by the UN in 2016.

Two things I'm aware of with regard to evidence:

1) The US knows when the Syria planes attacked and it matches the timing of the chemical attack.

2) Russia's immediate BS answer concerning attack was that bombs accidentally set off stored chemical munitions, but Sarin gas isn't normally stored in a way that it could be released in an accident because they mix the gas using separate components before releasing it. Apparently you mix it a few days before using it.

People are easily propagandized. A few videos showing some dead children, which yes it's terrible, of course it's terrible, and now suddenly we're bombing people seemingly without a plan. The civil war in Syria has been going on for years, I don't even know how many years offhand, many years. Who knows how many innocent civilians have been killed, likely hundreds of thousands. It's not good but it isn't our responsibility.

What is our plan? The Syrians are in a civil war. If we help one side the other side is going to hate us. We aren't going to kill one side and then everyone comes together and sings kumbaya around the campfire. That's nonsense.

The bottom line is that ISIS should be our priority and the Syrian regime, as far as I know, was fighting against ISIS. So why the heck are we fighting the Syrian regime now? Over some videos of dead civilians? Give me a break.

To be fair, the use of weapons of mass destruction, is morally different than the use of conventional weapons, there is a reason for the outrage, there is a reason it shocks our conscience. it is objectively a morally worse act because when you use a chemical weapon you are no longer going after an enemy combatant but attacking civilians directly by intentionally targeting them. That's kind of a big deal.I perceive the use of chemical weapons by Assad to be slap in Trump's face. It made Trump look bad. That's part of the reason for Trump's response. I also think Trump felt a little responsible for the deaths because of all his talk about working with Russia (and therefore Assad).

That makes as much sense as anything else honestly. I don't see how attacking the Syrian regime does anything beneficial for Americans.

The war in Syria was planned for a long time. U.S. State Dept. cables show this as well as the Rand report.

This is a long war policy that has been taking place for basically decades.

It is about control of oil and gas pipelines and Russia and Iran have stabilized Syria to a point where they started to make a lot of energy deals with other countries and there have been concerns about oil prices dipping and you have also seen Saudi Arabia panicking in several regards by trying to curry favor with Malaysia, China, Indonesia because they are worried about oil prices dipping.

There have also been shifts in allegiances like Qatar switching allegiances to Russia and Qatar has HUGE gas reserves.

In the end, it is all about oil and gas and who has control of what.

If you noticed, after the airstrike, oil prices spiked. that wasn't a coincidence. Russia isn't signing any extensions with OPEC and people are pissed off about that.

This has nothing to do with gas attacks on civilians but that is just a smoke & mirrors reason to drop bombs to try to scare the **** out of Russia and Iran.
