Some people are misunderstanding the point of this thread, and the point to some of us going on our rants.

i respect all your points. i honestly wish more people followed through, like you.

but the derailing plans part? somewhat of a cope. like i mentioned previously, i do what i want even with kids.
but this requires planning, and a work ethic that enables an income sufficient to feed a family and provide for good times.

also, later in life, i often find people are put off/ creeped out / mistrusting of people with no families. i believe it hurts peoples careers, because many business dont want to put people in high paying positions. if a ceo of a company doesnt give a fuk about a job because he wont care if he gets fired...well...

If you can do whatever you want, take a trip to brazil next week. Tell your job you want a couple of days off.

The only thing stopping you at that point is your job. But let's say your job grants your request, and gives you the days off.

And to make this situation easier. You do in fact want to go to brazil.

Can you go? You got your days off work. You got your plane ticket. Then pack up and go.

If you have kids, especially more than 1, that's not easy. Because there's lots of planning. Does your wife work? If so, who is going to watch the kids? If she doesn't, is she capable of handling all the errands plus the work load that you were responsible for?

Do you have enough funds to not only fund your trip, but to take care of whatever is at the house? The food? Babysitter if needed? Emergency money in case something goes wrong? Can your family get in touch with you in there is that emergency?

If you didn't have kids, we'll leave the wife in place but lets say you had no kids. Getting up to go and do ANYTHING is much easier.

Comparing a lifestyle from someone with no kids vs someone who does and claiming it's the same and nothing changes is actually cope.

And again, you're really mistaken if you think there aren't people out there with no desire to have kids. My former classmate from HS has a nice GF and both of them decided to not have kids.
