Yeah weather you drive or not a state ID is necessary for all kinds of various things. Theres tons of official things you can't do without a state ID.

Literally everyone is supposed to have a drivers license, or state ID if you dont drive or an International Passport.

If you ever want to get into clubs, or rent something, or cash a check at a random bank, or for memberships to other places that go by checking ID.

Literally the only people that dont have ID are illegals and felons and people like that. Why would someone not have an ID and then on top of that not say their apartment number?

red flags for sure

strong blanket statement

I know plenty of people who have lost their ID and walk around without ID because they don't want to carry their passport around with them all the time, because...guess what...you don't have to have ID on you to be walking public streets, or picking up trash, or entering/exiting/hanging around your home.

Good thing none of the situations you explained applied to the situation in the video at all. He probably didn't say his apartment number for privacy reasons, as I've said multiple times which you keep ignoring. You admitted you'd go back and beat his ass off duty if you were that cop. Perfect case in point.

Try again bud

Good point. I do carry an ID on me everywhere I go, but not when I'm walking around my apartment complex for christ's sake.

It's a miscommunication issue that could have been solved by either person being more reasonable.

the response is that officers are just normal people doing their job and citizens should comply.

the officer only failed by being baited into pettiness and anger because the guy was being such a douche bag cussing, acting over the top, not complying and resisting arrest and trying to make a huge embarrassing scene.

the annoyance, embarrassment, and harassment the officer had to endure is what is the most wrong.

Instead of complying and being quietly annoyed, he should have done his best to comply but all he did was get on the officers last nerve where he was on the verge of shooting him for being such a scumbag talking so much crap and making his job difficult.

Escalation is 100% the fault of the guy and the officer is only at fault for not being patient enough, which I definitely wouldn't have been able to either so I can see where he is coming from.

Just ugly ugly intolerable behavior from the guy.

If a suspect does stuff like that its unnecessarily challenging to a person who didn't grow up hood to play that game. its disgusting behavior and a culture shock to the officer because he didnt grow up being sheisty so hes not used to dealing with loud aggressive characters like that so the only solution is to arrest them for refusing to comply, for cussing, for resisting arrest.

let the judge handle it

I woulda put that dude behind bars for resisting arrest and being an a-hole to authority .

Then you'd lose your job cause it's unlawful. You wouldn't last 1 month as a cop with that mentality.

Okay so you are able to empathize with the officer, which is good. Why can't you empathize with the other guy? Maybe he was terrified and wasn't emotionally prepared to have his life threatened that day. Maybe he has had bad experiences with police in the past.

An officer is supposed to be trained, composed, and professional enough to not allow others to emotionally sway him. The gun on his hip is to protect himself and others from actual threats, not a tool used to pick up garbage.

yeah I empathize with him. He is a product of the media telling people that cops are pigs

people who think fuk the police (like comments I have in my negs saying fuk the police)

and people who think its ok to disobey cops because supposedly they profile black people.

so then its "reverse profiling" he think because he legit does live there and is legit cleaning up he gets so irate at a misunderstanding, behave so ugly and ignorant, that it turns something that should be nothing, into, well, something.

Now its a problem because you think your above the law because youre black and cops supposedly profile black people so its a chip on the shoulder.

I know what hes thinking, and I empathize with that. but that's my overall take on the situation that its more important to respect cops than it is to be a social justice martyr and we shouldn't encourage kids to act like this.

sure he actually lived there and sure the cop ****ed up and got emotionally baited into pettiness and kinda got stuck in a weird place where he was resisting arrest in a weird passive aggressive embarrassing way but not enough for it to get violent and it was just a trap.

Now police are worried about doing their job more and more and thats not what we want. We should be encouraging our youth to comply not to rebel.

The responsibility of being reasonable, one would think would fall on the one that is carrying a weapon, is in a position of authority, and getting paid to deal with those situations.

Currently the best troll on the Misc. I see him routinely getting people to argue against absurd logic. Lol
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

I’m usually on the side of LEO in these videos, but dude had every right to be upset. And good for him for standing up for himself. He also didn’t make it a race thing from what I saw (which he could have easily done in this situation). I work outside of my own house all the time without “proper ID”. He’s on his own property.

This is also proof that the system works in most situations since the cop was forced to resign (according to other posts).

Edit: if the cop had received a call for trespassing then it would have been justified. And he would have let the guy know that. But he didn’t so he was just being a dick apparently. Glad he’s off the force and not making other cops look bad anymore in the future.

Edit edit: also the guy looked like a complete hipster lol. He’s clearly not a threat.

I feel bad for the other cops who had to show up to back up this moron. Makes them all look bad when they were just doing their job not knowing the situation.

2 things.

1. I NEVER had an id with my University address on it. Always maintained my "home" address. A key was my only 'proof of residence.'

2. Why can't 2 men have a congenial conversation? There was no reason for that interaction (a cop proactively policing & a student doing something good for the building / community) to devolve into a Mexican standoff. It's sad.

#2 because this is America and we are not supposed to be a “police state”. Dude did a great job not making it a racial thing but I’m sure he had that in the back of his mind. He was on private property (which he resided in) and police have no right to come up and demand anything from you.

Like I said if there was a call to the police about a trespasser then they would have a reason to question him. But apparently he didn’t. He was just questioning the dude because he saw him sitting on the patio. It not ok. Hence why he apparently lost his job.
