The TD-27KV2 is a fukking fantastic piece of gear. I've fiddled with electronic drumsets here and there a little bit in the past but this is definitely a step ahead. The digital hi-hat, digital snare, and digital ride are very close to the real thing.

The built in sounds, to my ears, are good but by all accounts VST software is leaps and bounds above the native sounds in any electronic drumset module with the possible exception of the Pearl Mimic Pro. At some point I'll likely buy either Superior Drummer 3 or EZ Drummer 3.

I think hyperbolic comments are often made with each new iteration of electronic drumsets but, in this case, my opinion is that they're finally coming around to actually capturing a lot of what acoustic drums feel like.

The only things I really need to get now are a bass amp and an acoustic guitar of some kind.

I’m still trying to get to grips with recording and mixing guitars in garage band to be fiddling around with drum stuff

But I’ve seen that Steve Stine uses EZ Drummer and I am looking at my options for better drums to create my own tracks. GarageBands auto drummer is less than inspiring for the kind of rock stuff I tend to play

Getting grips with recording and mixing? Outside of red light fever you just press the red orange button and then afterwards you mess around with the sliders.

You don't have to get a fancy one like mine, you can buy a way cheaper one and use it to trigger VSTs that will sound great for your recordings. I hate drum programming with that grid chit.

Well obviously I put ideas down on tracks, but that's all I ever do and that's if I even sit to record intentionally versus just jamming to backing tracks 90% of the time or recording short 30-60 covers for instagram with absolutely chit tier audio lol

I know GarageBand itself isn't most people's first choice for a DAW but I was on a budget and am fairly content with it but I don't know the first thing about mixing when I do layer multiple guitar parts.

I use Logic Pro on the iPad. It's a subscription that costs like $5 a month.

Another fukking terrible version of Eruption for the holidays. Yes I completely botch the first part and the red light makes me get insanely tense and my picking hand kept on vacillating between wrist and elbow during the tremolo picking parts, which really annoys me, but I think this version is still a step up from the previous version and represents 70% of how I normally can play it.

Eventually, I feel through constantly posting this embarrassing chit, that I'll get a thick enough skin that the red light will no longer have it's deleterious effect on my ability to play up to my standards.

Guitar's unplugged tone is coming through as loud as the distorted tone. It's EVH, I reckon you should turn it up.

In other news…

There's a new Kemper.

So many choices today, if you can't get a decent tone there's something wrong.

I never plugged into a single amp in a music store that sounded like VH's Fair Warning and nothing I owned sounded like it either. Today you can download a preset for your Fractal or grab a couple of pedals that do it and away you go.

Last open mic night this year so if I was gonna play the Xmas song I’ve been working on for a month, last chance! Nerves were on 10 but I sacked up and signed up. I ended up playing second. Fumbled a bit, but watching the video it really wasn’t bad. I went ahead and played a Lois Armstrong song after that I had practiced far less and really nailed it.

Fun experience and I’m glad I did it. Already trying to think of more instrumentals to learn for another one next year.

Howdy Woody….

Thanks for submitting your video of the gig and glad it went well.
Are you doing mainly instrumentals or you doing some vocal tunes too?

Me?….I'm not a solo performer by any stretch and have always (like for 50 years ) had confidence issues on the singing front.
I don't have the courage to draw that attention to myself as a solo performer.
I fit much better as a rhythm guitarist/song writer.

Well done and thanks for sharing the video.

Carry on.

Goood evenin'….

I've always dug this tune so a couple years ago I got this worked out with much thanks to my collaborator-in-chief lead player.
Her haunting vox and smooth rhythm section.
It's fun to play along with too.

It's called "Rio De Janeiro Blue"….the Randy Crawford version.
To encourage others I thought I'd make myself vulnerable.

Also new song I’m learning to play is why Georgia after the misc itt yall posted some of John maters guitar playing. Never really paid attention to it but that dude is absolutely bad ass singing and playing. So far I’ve made some songs after learning other songs and doing my own thing so if I can get some stuff like that down that be dope. Moving all over the neck like a pimp

Can someone link a good beginner amp and cable for electric guitar? Do they all come with cables or is that separate?

Howdy….

I agree.
TBH….my style of (rhythm) guitar playing caters well to the Tele versatility. (mine is 7.5# )
I don't need an LP or Strat for my style of writing.

That's a gorgeous chocolate looking wood grain finish.

If I was rolling in buckaroos, I'd really like to have 335 semi hollow which would also fit my playing style and the sound I like.
Gibson, Epi or Ibazez….I'm no purist in this context as long as it feels good to play.

Merry Christmas!

Thanks Wayne!

Definitely not a singer, I can’t even talk and play at the same time. That’s a different level of coordination.

It’s a challenge as a solo instrumental because there’s no band to cover any fack ups haha but it was still fun as hell. I need some more instrumental tunes in my repertoire, I want to play again at the next one

Howdy Woods….

I hear you.
Even as long as I've been doing this singing (vocals in general) always has been my biggest confidence hurdle , and still is!
I won't divulge how many vox takes I have to do to satisfy my expectations but it could approach (3) digits on some of my songs.

Ha…no, you have no band backup.
I applaud your performing perseverance and hope the next gig goes well or better.

Hmmm….'need more instrumentals'?
OK….what's on your set list now?

Howdy bh….

No….my live band years are long gone (1970-1980) and I do miss some aspects of being in a band.
Since then I just stick to writing/recording originals and playing some songs with friends.

Knowing what is required for a band to work I just don't have the drive or patience for it anymore.

A suggestion:
If you're serious know that it's a long road filled with many challenges to overcome.
Try to find people that are a bit better at their skill sets thank yourself.
Try to surround yourself with those better than you. Listen to them, be attentive and practice diligently so they perceive your serious and continue to help you.
Especially, in learning some basic theory .

Yes….be willing to learn the language of music so you can communicate effectively with those better than you and anyone else you're working with.
IMO that's an imperative.

But, that's just me.

No….I don't think anyone would pay to listen to my songs.
I have no lofty delusions about my place in the music world.

I don't write pop pablum, sappy love songs nor does my style fit into any mass appeal demographic.
What I do is just creative therapy.
I'm just a song writing bottom feeder.

If you gave some of my material a spin, I do thank you.

Mornin' bh….

Most of my latest material (last 15 songs or so) I tried to feature Ken's axe work more than myself because he liked my material enough to contribute to my songs.
I do play a rhythm guitar track on many of them.

On Gamblin' Man and Be Careful What You Wish For I did NOT play any rhythm tracks to allow Ken to be as creative as he desired.
I did hesitate to upload BCWYWF because of the personal element but figured to hell with it and threw it against the wall anyway to see if it sticks.

On the 'tiktok' thing?
I appreciate the thought but I don't promote myself that aggressively and I'm not on any of those comparable sites….not on FB either.
Being an old fossil my ego just isn't that big.
I've always had a propensity for music/playing an instrument.
Hence, do what I do as creative therapy and to possibly interact with those of like interests, in this context.
Or, take on a favorite copy tune of mine, work it out, upload a play-along that my help others who want to learn it.
I have several of my favorites uploaded on my YT channel.

This song writing stuff isn't easy and it's a very personal endeavor
One has to have the skin of a snow tire and accept the bitter with the sweet comments.
Thanks a lot for taking the time to give them a spin, the kind words and hope you found them worthy of your time.

More coffee for me.

I hear good things about the Boss Katana series, they’re pretty versatile if you’re just looking for a practice amp. I personally use Mogami gold series cables

But TBH I don’t think todays electric guitarist really needs an amp unless you plan on gigging you can get a pretty good sounding recording setup with amp sims

Howdy….

Yes….I wrote/arranged/recorded both of those songs and I do all vocals on my originals.

Sorry if I was unclear about that.

Thanks for asking.

this thread has been refreshingly pleasant the last 3 weeks, I can't put my finger on exactly why, but it's been a pleasure to read the last 3 weeks. maybe a new sense of positivity heading into the new year. whatever it is, let's hope it stays that way!
