I got a 10 gauge SXS on gunbroker for $250, and after over a year, finally got to cutting it.



I wish I'd remembered to take a before pic, oh well. It had 32" barrels, which I cut down to 18.5", and I removed the crappy recoil pad, figured I liked that length, so I cut off another inch from the stock, for when I add a new pad. I'll use a grind to fit one, and maybe a grip cap, too. A buddy and I did it with a hack saw and a miter box. I think we did okay, it looks pretty even. I filled the gap between the barrels with JB weld, cuz I don't have the ability to solder, and I plan on cerakoting it anyway. Waiting on that to cure before I file it down some more. I'd like to remove the old finish and give it a red color. Ideally, the barrels, trigger guard, action-lever-thing, and maybe the safety would be black, while the rest is a just polished. Problem is, I'm not getting the wood to separate from the receiver, not am I getting the receiver to come apart any further than just breaking it down. So, that may not happen.

I guess next is using a stripper to remove the lacquer, being mindful of the checkering, and some fine steel wool to polish the receiver. About all I can do is use lots of tape and a cerakote spray while the rest of covered in tape. Not the best, but it's all I can do I think. Any suggestions would be great. It probably doesn't look like much, but it's still pretty fat being a 10 gauge, and still really heavy, all things considered.

I am so happy to buy my 92FS for only $550 with 3 magazines. It's American made too.

I was in and out in around half hour. That gun shop was packed.

The trigger isn't too heavy for double action. Just right for me.

I practiced field stripping it several times tonight. Not too shabby.

That plastic guide rod doesn't bode confidence though. I'll very likely replace that with a steel one.

Did some shooting with autos today. Not sure that it will ever get old. 500 rounds or so through an 11.5" 5.56 SBR.

Still leaning towards doing a full SBR build with that 516 upper I snagged even knowing the MCX will be sbr'ed sooner or later too. Also deciding when to sign up for the two day defensive rifle course in the spring. This industry is weird as hell but it's simultaneously one of the most challenging and enjoyable jobs I have ever had.

Well, I got the call from the insurance co tonight and, basically as expected, the Escape is totaled. I think in a lot of ways, it's better that way. Fixing a car with the damage it had and the shock it took probably just leads to other issues. So we'll lose a couple thousand on what we paid, but not huge. We're planning on trying to find another one around the same year and mileage if possible. Really liked that little SUV and we spent a lot of time finding it . . . sucks that it's gone.

So now I get to start the car search all over again . . . not in any particular hurry. We'll wait to find a good deal and see what we can do.

Yeah, we still have two vehicles so it's not like it's that much of an issue . We had bought the Escape right after our son turned 15 so he could learn on it and so we'd have a third car available with the kids getting into driving--our daughter turns 15 in the spring and she'll be driving soon, too.. I actually used it quite a bit for running around because it gets better mileage than my Xterra and it was pretty fun to drive.

So we'll take our time and look for a decent deal on a replacement.

with that said and not to start a war in here what does MFC think about carrying a .45 vs a smaller cal.?

pros: Im comfortable with the round, and know its limitations within reason, and i have a decent amount of ammo on hand for it. Big rounds, tons of force generated.

cons: less rds in the mag than a .40 or 9mm. 45 is p expensive

Everyone seems to know everyone. Difficult to break into, especially without LE/Mil experience (which I do not have). But once you're in everyone seems to company hop despite that it pretty much means lots of moving around because of the geographic distribution of the companies.

Then there's the personalities. I work with everything from nationally ranked competitive shooters that ended up going corporate to ex special forces folks to just good ol' gun nuts. Then of course in other areas like finance or supply chain you still get people that have zero interest in firearms and just landed there by chance.

all depends on what you're comfortable with. imo I like 9mm better because of the capacity and quicker follow ups. that's just me. if you're the most comfortable with 45 and can use that better than any other round then go for it.

Probably doesn't make much difference

because handguns are weak and ineffective as a general rule and all service cartridges, when properly loaded, performances are substantially similar. Most go with 9 these days for the capacity and cost and slightly quicker shooting but whatever, availability of ammo, guns, mags, and the performance will be good for the major service cartridges of 9x19, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, .38spl +P, and .357 mag. There are plenty of other cartridges that can do just as well and aren't disappearing anytime soon too, but that group of 5 is pretty much the standard

In '13, I got rear-ended in my 2010 Corolla S by a Penske moving truck driven by a Peterbilt mechanic.

There was over $7k of damage. The Blue Book value of my car WAS $7k. Very surprised Peterbilt's insurance didn't total out my car. Took the dealer 4 weeks to repair.

That's not bad for factory loads. I thought I saw some cheaper in the store too yesterday. I pretty much only shoot handloads, mostly because FMJs are not suitable for most shots I take, need the bullet to come apart if I miss a yote instead of ricochet. I've got lots of brass, Powder, and primers so it gives me something to do during the $hitty sub zero months in the Midwest. Also I have never seen factory loads group sub moa. The Xtreme and Berry's plated bullets on sale are a good deal too. Just ordered several thousand in .45 and 9mm. UPS guy is gonna be sweating bringing these orders

fuark bro's, near death experience

for those that don't know, i'm type 1 diabetic. I went out drinking with some friends and ended up blacking out for 4 hours after 2 whiskey's and 2 screw drivers (wtf?). friends figured it was alcohol, called my best friend who came and picked me up and took me home. got home, checked glucose (i was still having minor hallucinations)... it was normal (130) after drinking 4 drinks (2 with orange juice), so my blood sugar should have been ~500, but was normal.

apparently I drank enough that I didn't feel the hypoglycemia symptoms and the orange juice in the screw drivers kept me alive. scary as fuark not having memory of a 4 hour span and knowing I nearly died. The friends (coworkers) at the bar with me said I was mumbling incoherently and they didn't understand how I could be that drunk after only a few drinks.

When my buddy showed up he was smacking me on the cheek saying "DUDE, WHERE'S YOUR 19? WHERE'S YOUR 19?????" which I had left locked in my car because I don't drink and carry. He retrieved it for me and made sure it made it home with me.
