Dimitrov announced that he's working with Agassi. Needed to do something because he's almost out of the Top 20 after being ranked as high as #3 this year.

Sadly the Norwood Reaper has also joined his team.

The ATP needs to put something in place for these situations where a qualifier goes deep into a 500 draw and can't enter qualifying for a Masters that starts on Monday. Maybe some kind of discretionary wildcard and if it's not needed the spot goes to a lucky loser.

Just doesn't seem fair for a guy who was playing so well with all that momentum to be denied the chance to compete in the last Masters of the season which is ripe for upsets.

2:20 looked like a Top 10 player.

Agreed. He played his azz off in Basel. Would have been nice to see if he could have followed it up with another strong week.

Dominic Thiem wouldn't be Top 30 without his clay points. Nadal racked up 5500 of his 7660 total points in the last 52 weeks on clay. That leaves 2160 which would currently put him at #17.

Thiem is a non factor off clay and Nadal has either withdrawn or retired from 12 HC tournaments this past year.

HC is the most competitive surface by a milewhich is why the excuses roll out during the HC season and not on dirt where he's running like a gazelle. Sorry to tell you that mate.
I was referring to Euron's post above where it had Madrid and Rome as the two highest rated majors.

He's defending nothing until Wimbledon 2019 so you'd expect with a typical start to the season he piles on another 5000~ and at that point he's surely staying there for the rest of the year and that would put him level with Sampras. If he can extend that until June 2020 the record is his.

2015-2016 Nadal was roadkill (didn't win a set in 7 matches), Federer could only beat him in BO3 when conditions suited him (lost all 3 slam finals), and the biggest slam threat was Stanimal who showed up a few weeks a year.

Fast forward to 2018 and Nadal has withdrawn/retired from all but 2 non-clay tournaments and that pattern could continue, Federer is playing worse than 2015 with a declining serve, and post knee surgery Stan is obviously a non factor. He's in the driver's seat for sure.

Can't see the stats from yesterday's match but I remember 1st serve being around 40% which is gutter level for him since he's usually around 65%. I think he won around 90% of the points when it went in but he only got away with it because it's Fognini on an indoor court. Captain obvious here but that won't cut it against the brick wall.

Which I guess begs the question will he duck him again? In the grand scheme of things since he's got zero chance of reaching #1 it's actually better for him if Novak stays on a roll winning everything.

Wimbledon 2015 SF he got76%of 1st serves in, won 85% on 1st, 55% on 2nd, 19 aces, 1 DF, and faced one BP which he saved to win in straight sets.

That's why Murray walked away stunned because he actually played a great match. Anyway it's been a while since he served like that.

That 2015 SF is one the few matches where you can honestly say that his opponent played at a great level, and still got beat comfortably. Fed's level was just one up on Murray's every step along the way. That match was a sickening masterclass.

Which is ridiculous if you consider that Murray's level in that match was high enough to easily beat anyone else, except maybe Djokovic and Fed.

You had me until Murray. The other 3 never took more than half a year off while he took a full year off and has only played 12 matches in 18 months.

I don't think Murray is quite done just yet. I'm going to start to give the big 4 the benefit of the doubt until they prove me otherwise.

Murray has Djokovic's # on grass. Beat him at the Olympics and the Wimbledon Final without dropping a set.

Federer still not getting enough 1st serves in but losing only one point when it did (27/28) against Nishikori was pretty impressive. Ditto for 60% on 2nd serve which will be a crucial stat tomorrow against Djokovic.

Novak is the favorite of course but he's due for a loss. After 3 years I think he finally pulls one back tomorrow to reach the final.

Federer isn't beating Djokovic. Khachanov just might though.

Federer has some form ending Novak's streaks during his best seasons.

2011 ended a 41 match streak at the French.
2015 ended a 23 match streak at the ATP Finals.

Beat him in Shanghai 2014. ATP Finals 2015.

Currently on a 21 match winning streak in Paris. No reason he can't do it here if he's serving well on a fast court in BO3.

Not a bad effort except for going limp with a 2nd serve return on set point. 2017 Federer would have stepped in and whacked it. Upside is he's saved all 7 BPs and he's serving first in this set.

Good news is he's getting around 70% of 1st serves in.

well it was a great match. disappointing final set tiebreaker. federer plays like that and he'll continue to have his chances on faster courts.

khachanov will beat him tomorrow. heard it hear first.
