Seriously, don't get offended, I'm trying to help.

You need to be a man and admit you were wrong for going to this extreme. There is no shame in admitting you f'd up, tensions were high, and you wanted to "get him"... But step the f back and look at the lengths you are going so you "feel" some type of way over doing something to someone who doesn't give a fuc about you? It's completely irrational behavior. So stop it.
Yes I went too far, yes I was irrational.

And to your surprise I also walk from confrontations all the time. It really feels like I’m one person during the day and another kind of person at night. There was just something about that one that had me so heated my brain just said “**** it” and that was it.

Try walking away from confrontations on a daily basis and that **** will start to add up and you bottle it until the perfect moment arises. That’s how it was for me. I know how to be extremely professional on the clock but outside, it’s a different story.

People talk about letting **** go all the time. You gotta let it go man, you just gotta let it go. When you’ve been letting it go for a while, it becomes exhausting. That’s why we have these people who were always known to be cool, calm and collected and then all of a sudden just snap one day.

Why is it pathetic to threaten to call the cops? Dude was coming at me wrong with a death stare, I really thought he was gonna do something. Is getting cops not what you’re supposed to do?

I truly hope you end up with a confrontation unlike any other. Don’t forget to take your own advice.
I've been in plenty of confrontations, even a similar one to yours with an angry boomer who tried to fight me on an airplane. I just MOGGED him and avoided the fight easily without acting like a bitch. You have a lot of growing to do as a man.

I wish you the best man. Go see a therapist, go do some martial arts classes to get comfortable with the prospect of physical confrontation (not with the plan to use it actively). Become a better man instead of acting like a beta twink fantasizing about winning an assault lawsuit.

To be clear, I am not advising you to walk away from confrontation. I'm suggesting that you manage your emotions better so that you can defuse a situation before it escalates to the point where you have to walk away.

You are now at that point. If he fights back, over you threatening his livelihood, you should not respond and should not play tit for tat.

Good on you for knowing you went to far. Now just let this die down. And if a similar confrontation comes your way, just smile and learn how to de-escalate. It's not backing down. It's having emotional regulation, and not letting boomer sugar daddies rock your frame. Learn to have more respect for yourself so even wasting more than 5 seconds on this event is ridiculous. It's probably not going to be easy, given what you shared about your past, but it's doable. It starts with a shift in your mindset.

If I was to de-escalate it and not even record him, I would have still snitched. I think that’s what I should have just done. Take a discrete picture of him from a distance (for management to find out more easily who he is) and that’s it.

I believe snitching gets too much of a bad rap. Snitching always happens when there is a legitimate issue that can get the other person in trouble, otherwise it would just be called lying and not snitching. Next time I’m just going to keep it at “snitching” only behind their backs and de-escalating as if I’m their best friend.

You can both de-escalate AND snitch at the same time. That’s the way to go man, you’ve actually just given me a bright idea.

You realize you're not snitching on somebody for assaulting you, right? You're snitching on somebody for coming across in a way that you perceived to be rude and aggressive.

"Snitching" has its place when it comes to things like terrorist attacks

Not when it comes to getting your own personal feelings hurt like a beta b*tch

Instead of handling things yourself like a man would, you ran to others for help like a woman

Edit-

- Very important OP but this will help you, learn to properly regulate your emotions and be in complete control, never "lose it" (you will "win" using this method)
- Study and practice stoicism
- Understand that the only one you can count on is yourself and be confident you can handle anything without the need of help

The government loves people like you who immediately go to authority figures for any type of conflict resolution as minor as it may be. That right there paints a good picture of your lack of confidence. Time to change.

Either walk away or go all in and beat his ass outside, those are really the only two options in a situation like this.

Honestly I wouldn’t blame you for just walking though, people are crazy for no reason these days. Really the only way to get around it aside from walking is to out-crazy him, which most people aren’t willing to do.

You have to be man enough to go to others for help. Most men think they’re too good for doctors, directions, therapists, cops, etc. because they’re overcompensating. Their fragile male ego cannot deal with being helped.

Yes I immediately go to authority figures because they actually have power, and I am exercising my own power through them. You have to be confident enough to be willing to allow others to help you. I am all for government regulation, welfare, universal basic income. We won’t see eye to eye here.

If no one helped each other, we wouldn’t be where we’re at today. If everyone thought they were too good to be helped, we also wouldn’t where we’re at today. We have cops for a reason, because it is their job (not ours), to handle threatening situations.

Women are very smart and have much smaller egos than men do. Men are on average, just as if not more insecure than women. It is of no surprise that the terms “alpha and beta” were invented by men. You never see women calling one another alpha and beta.

Statistically, there’s more women in college than men. Men have always tried to rule by force throughout history out of fear of being outdone by women. Women have proved to be just as intelligent if not more than men.

This study here shows that women’s brains don’t experience as much cognitive decline in later years because their brains are effectively younger since men start adulthood three years older than women.

https://www.pnas.org/doi/full/10.1073/pnas.1815917116

There’s also studies that have been done on toxic masculinity. This need to always be independent and strong is detrimental for men. They found that masculinity is a spectrum, it’s not you’re either a man or not.

OP, you went on the defensive the moment this guy came back and told you he was using the machine. You gave him attitude for "being gone for a WHOLE 5 minutes" and "appearing out of NO WHERE", when you yourself acknowledged there was gear nearby that could have belonged to any machine in the area.

Don't you think a simple "Yeah my bad dude, I saw the water bottle there but wasn't sure which machine it belonged to. Mind if I work in with you?" would have resulted in a better outcome?

They’re going to pull the cameras up and find out who he is based on the clear photos I’ve got of him and time of scan. He said they’ve got a zero tolerance policy and they’re going to warn him first and if it happens again, he’s out for good which is fine with me. Anything to get this pos to look over his shoulder works for me. When he gets that call from the VP and gets talked to like a child, “Your retardation is about to get you booted”, we’ll see who the bitch is then.

Call me crazy but going after somebody’s information, finding out who they are, where they work, etc. is just the type of person I am because I know these days people got their personal information up one way or another, phone cameras are good enough to where people are more likely to have evidence than just “he said she said”. Dude probably thought I was the bluffing type who wouldn’t report his ass. All that laughing and smugness about me calling the cops on him in the gym last night is about to catch up to him, I’m laughing last.
Update: you sound psychotic. This is an escalation of force. If I was him and saw you again I'd go for broke. A misdemeanor assault and probation would be worth teaching you a lesson if you cost me my job. Just my 0.02.

Sure op came from a place of manletism and drug it out and went too far detectiving the guy but I think people are forgetting what a monster piece of absolute chit the guy was for walking away from the equipment for five minutes. You don't save anything with a water bottle in a public gym you fkng stay with the equipment and let someone work in if needed. Not op's fault the guy lacks bladder control or whatever.
