I use my park tool chain cleaner with degreasing dish soap. Seems to do the trick. Takes a couple times of me emtying/put fresh water in because that water turns black real fast.

I'll have to order a mega sized container and keep it on hand. Also, I used a new dry lube so I'm hoping it won't gunk up as quickly.

Well, I made it out alive gentleman.. my longest "nonstop" ride ever.

Holy sheet. Might put in some more tomorrow, but it will definitely be a recovery ride..

Surprised that my feet are the only things killing me atm..

Excellent, you must feel elated. But more riding tomorrow seems like overkill? My longest ride was half that and I was out for the count for 2 days.

Also, you really can elaborate more on the motivation, route, prep/post, etc. After all, this is thecyclingthread. Anyway, congrat again on setting the new goal.

Thanks brother. My only opportunity at group rides are on sunday mornings, so I figured I'd venture outside of my social isolation for it, heh. But the more I think about it the more I'll probably just hit a spin tomorrow instead and will probably do some resistance work. More time in the saddle right now (especially with my saddle sores) doesn't seem like the most appealing.

For me, I used my heavier bike (my defy 1) for the last two days with VERY little distance and climbing work (averaged around 25-30 miles a day with around 3-4k of climbing) and took two full days off of my TCR. So when I pop on my TCR after the time off, I'm usually a BULLET. Although I only averaged 16.4 mph on today's ride.

Not much to say sir! Just lots of buffet work!
Had to stop myself.. LOL.

It's hard because I only had about 2,000 cals before the ride, and once I got done.. ALL I WANTED was fruit... didn't even care about the sushi. lol

So you have some soreness in the saddle? I did a 125-mile ride last week and experienced quite a bit of soreness.

I was wondering more specifically about feeding and hydration during the ride. Did you nibble throughout?

Nope! Had about 1,500 kcals beforehand and a whopping 10oz of water during, lol.

I'm using one of those Wend sticks that looks like a deodorant but is soft wax with teflon blown through it. Very quiet so far and minimal gunk, the only downside is you have visible wax on your chain.

I spray wd40 onto chain and cassette.

Remove wheels.
Sponge wash the bike.
Rinse.
That gives enough time for wd40 to loosen up and degrease.
Sponge removes the chit from the chain and cassette.
Rinse.

Add wd40 as lube.

Bike and chain sparkling.

ION. Took a chuppa lollypop with me today. Wow. Was unwrapped an hour into the ride.

Maybe onto something here.

Oh my HNNNNNGGG.

I used to hate summer in phx but now I love it! Getting up in the mountains @ 8,000-9,000 feet elevation is GOAT.

Today I covered 33 miles, 4,300 feet of elevation gainz. All on a mountain bike.

The first loop I did was SICK. I never went in the clockwise direction on this part and the jumps going that way are insane & smooth. Also discovered a beautiful jump set on another trail I hadn't done.

The second loop I bonked HARD about 60% of the way up a fire road climb. I had lunch after the first loop so I think it was just elevation I'm not used to because I was SHOT. Still made it to the top (resting, walking, basically failing) but the descent wasn't comfortable due to my exhaustion.

Overall I'm glad I forced the finish because I need to get back up there several more times this summer. Lots of snow on the trails, and fallen trees, trails clearly not "ready" for summer yet but idgaf. New dropper post was GREAT.

Sup brahs, been a while!! Been dealing with a lot of "life" bullchit, which has kept me off the bike, but I think I've snapped back. I just plunked down a few bucks on some new kit:

https://www.backcountry.com/alpinest...-2-shorts-mens(red)
https://www.backcountry.com/alpinest...rt-sleeve-mens(black)
https://www.backcountry.com/troy-lee...air-short-mens(black)
https://www.backcountry.com/troy-lee...rt-sleeve-mens(yellow)

You'll see that all of the above is MTB kit because I didn't want to go full-on road bike kit for my commute to/from work. I do need to pick up some bib shorts for the road bike though.

I also have a set of Crank Brothers Stamp pedals on the way.https://www.competitivecyclist.com/c...rs-stamp-pedal

It was really hard not to go clipless for the commuter bike, but I really wanted to keep the ability to "grab and go" that can only be had from platform pedals. They have a pretty serious looking set of 10 traction pins on each side, so hopefully I'll feel almost as locked to the bike as if I were clipped in.

And then last but certainly not least, I finally made the big jump to a proper cycling computer, the Garmin Edge 820!! I ordered the bundle with the cadence sensor, out front mount and heart rate strap. I'm also going to get a K-Edge mount for the road bike.

I should have it all by Wednesday, and I'm gonna give it all a proper thrashing when it arrives.

Next up; power meter!! I'm looking at a Quarq DZero with a 44T SRAM Force1 chainring, which will leave me with a poor man's 1x setup until I swap out the cassette and rear derailleur for an 11 speed. I'm eeeeeeeeeeven considering going Di2, depending on how the external battery mount looks on the bike.

Flat pedals are AMAZING if you pair them with some good five-ten shoes. I use five-ten sleuths with my race face Chester pedals. Grip for days. Yesterday my feet were soaked from puddle blasting but I lost no grip at all.

Moving from Houston to my brother's property right outside of Austin. Looking forward to the hills and various mountain biking options... not to mention the favorable bike culture there. Can't wait for some epic rides.

Dude that is awesome! You will love it compared to Houston. I've never lived in Houston but been there several times and driven through it more and I can tell you that I wouldn't wanna live there. Only downside is the home prices are insane. 500k for a so-so 3bdroom in and around DT.

This is from my Austin ride the other evening after work, along Lake Austin by Mount Bonnell.

You might want to get a 32 cassette, I just changed from a 11-28 and its way better. There are a lot of short (0.3-1m) punchy climbs here that average 10%+ and hit 15% or higher in spots. I was able to spin 90 rpm up Mt. Bonnell that averages 8% for about a half mile. I have no problem using my short-cage Durace RD on 32 cassette, even though they say you need an Ultegra Long-Cage. I can think DurianRider for that tip - spin to win brah.

I just finished GCN's 30 minute interval workout. I've been doing my own intervals but this one is a bitch.

You end up doing 8 30 second sprints with 1:30 to 3:00 min rest periods. I'd like to do this 2x per week as I think it'll help build a good base for critics racing.

I need to take the bike in for a tune up because the headset is loose and the drivetrain is noisy. And I'll put some 4000s' on while it's in there.
