one thing i dont like is all the twitter bystanders jumping in , just like protests, and declaring their opinion and judgement to be the undeniable fact. we do not live in a society that is decided by mob rule.

ah yeah true between when you first show your ticket and when you actually show for boarding i guess they should check the numbers but when i go it seems you only show your ticket early on just to show you belong there so you can start the luggage/search part. maybe they do 'check in' there, or they are supposed to.

i really don't think there was an overbook situation was there? everyone who bought a ticket was on the plane. they must have decided last minute to get the 4 additional crew on board. overbooks generally are sorted out before you board. once you board, it's pretty hard to manage to get people off the plane who aren't being disruptive.

Like it or not these are the people that may possibly sit on a jury. Hence why UA is fuked no matter what. They can spend hours explaining and arguing all the rules or whatever they want but once the video of the guy getting his face smashed and dragged off the plane is played, its over. UA won't issue an apology because then it'll be an admission of guilt and they'll be taken to cleaners even harder than they already will be.

You're missing the bigger pictures. If the company owns up, apologizes, and starts trying to handle this the way they should have from the beginning, they will be better off. The lawsuit money they will pay out is NOTHING compared to the value they will lose from the bad press. The stock is already down 800 million in 24 hours, that is without a single dollar of lost revenue from the people that will stop flying with them. When you're a public company you HAVE to do better than this because you are accountable to the shareholders.

In hindsight yes they should have started on the right foot and declared an apology from the beginning and started working towards cleaning this mess. Would that have saved them from their stock tanking? Absolutely not. Maybe not as bad as it has (is) but this is a PR nightmare and no amount of apologies is going to save it. I should have worded it that they won't issue an apology right now. Not till after they settle with the guy. Legally I'm sure it's not in their best interest to admit guilt till after they can do their own investigation but by that time the damage was done, it was plastered all over social media. As someone stated before... In a year people will forget. This won't be the end of UA. People still have to fly.

Some things I see.. Of course, this is just my opinion..

1) Guy did act like a giant baby.
2) Guy also had the right to be there, he was boarded and seated and causing no issues(beforehand), not belligerent like the CEO of UA accuses. Also, according to UA policy, he had a right to be there.
3) Offered $800 to change to a flight that would be the next day, definitely not worth it.
4) (at the time) He said he was a doctor and had patients to see the next morning. This would have been very easy to verify by UA.
5) UA's CEO done goofed hard with his statement.
6) Stocks down nearly $1 billion in a day.
7) Doc gonna make bank off this.

Read that United lost $830 million in value so far and it is still going down. All because the manager laughed at that $1600 offer from a passenger. All said and done with lost customers United could be losing $2+ billion over $1600. Rofl. That manager is never going to be hired in the industry again. CEO probably is going to be replaced for his leaked email. Mind blown that all of this is happening because United couldn't or wouldn't book flights for their employees effectively and instead inconvenienced customers. They deserve all of this however.

According to internet lawyers maybe, but not in the real world. They have the right to remove you from the flight anytime before takeoff for any reason. This dude isn't getting any money, he will be lucky if he doesn't get a charge. United doesn't give a **** about boycotts or their image, they are part of a government regulated monopoly.
