They need one, especially if the boat serves alcohol. It's foreseeable that someone could fall overboard. A fight could break out, turn into a brawl, and someone gets knocked overboard. Or a stupid teenager could have his girlfriend break up with him and jump in the water to commit suicide.

The night that this happened, the weather was not great and quite overcast with isolated heavy downpours. And some breaking waves. Regarding the “shark” that everyone claims to see at 3 seconds. It’s NOT a Shark. If it was we would have seen him get attacked less than a second later. What you saw was a wave breaking and the white cap left behind from it. He likely started fighting against the current to get back to the vessel after disappearing into the darkness and soon wore himself out. At that point he either drowned or attempted to float which would have disorientated him.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet (other than LOL at redditor link) is that ALL beach tourist areas throughout the world HATE sharks.

Not because they're evil creatures but because it hurts tourism. Really badly. Esp in Florida (this is googleable) where I'm pretty sure has the highest amount of reported shark bites in the world due to the shallow waters & huge numbers of people entering the water due to its calm waters and relative warmth compared to NEast/Cali for example.

In fact I've seen a shark swimming in the water next to me off the Gulf Coast. Floridacels can chime in that its true about pervasiveness of sharks and how beach towns do anything to suppress news of shark bites (hush money etc.).

fun fact: disneyworld is in Orlando. Somehow the temperature at disneyworld is always been reported as slightly less degrees than the greater Orlando area. disneyworld intentionally puts out lower temps.....Crazy right?

Well it makes sense when you know that many tourists are dismayed/won't go to Disney if its too hot there that week.
