I don’t follow. Please explain how those rings are better than any other in spec rings or one piece mount when the base is out of spec.

An lol at a Spuhr being worthless. If I ever want to get rid of it, they retain their value quite well. Probably a lot better than anything Burris makes.

They can be adjusted within the ring itself to bring the optic in line with the bore, even if the mount is drilled to the receiver incorrectly.

I'm just telling you offhand that "Burris Signature" is the only set of rings getting discussed by our tech support guys.

I was really impressed with how light the Aero SPR Ultralight was, and hadn't heard anything negative about them, hence the recommendation.

EDIT: I also had an ADM Recon that was not an extended model that I hated because the eye relief was inadequate.
Vortex rings are made by Seekins. They are great rings, and probably the least expensive rings to use on expensive glass. Again, ADM mounts are nice, but they can be hard to keep torqued properly. The return to zero, from what I've read and seen in online vids isn't great.

But then the scope is being held with plastic inserts. Again, I've felt ok with that on a .22 but would not trust that on a centerfire rifle.

Old chitty pic, but you get the idea.

The Burris rings self align, with out of spec bases, via plastic inserts that can slide in the ring housing. That's what he means by that aligning part

Of the 40 hours I've been with the company, probably 20 of them have been talking about interior scope geometry and scope mounting. I am not an expert, but this has been what I've been focused on for the last week, learning from a guy who's been either physically repairing scopes or doing customer service/tech support on them for the last 10 years. I've heard "are you mounting your scope to the manufacturer's specs with an inch-lbs torque wrench" a lot. I've heard zero mentions of "are you using vertically mounted rings."

If you have enough adjustment in your scope, yes. However, if you run out your windage, you can limit your elevation range depending on the geometry of your elevation system. Your internal adjustments in your scope are for dialing corrections, not correcting mounting issues.

If Bob's receiver is drilled to slightly out of spec, the base that is put into those holes will be out of alignment, as will any 1-piece mount (and most rings).

Sure. But that’s literally what you do when zeroing a rifle. The nice thing about buying high quality rings/mounts is that they are in spec and when swapping scopes between rifles, it’s usually takes a few tenths of a mil to zero.

Your argument is a straw man at best. There is no legitimate reason to use rings with plastic inserts on anything with more recoil than a rimfire.

So, it's not my argument, it's the argument I'm hearing all day at work.

Quality rings and mounts are in spec to each other, and to the base they're mounted to, none of which is helpful if the base is not perfectly alligned to the bore.

EDIT: I also specifically asked about one-piece mounts, when this was brought up for further clarification.

I just imagine a lot of movement available under recoil. The rings aren't even part of the mount.
