Edit; blizz forums say he has killed over 6 million players. Why is a nightmare enemy spawning in sub level 50 dungeons? Are they trying to mess up people farming?
Drops and monster level cap out at 50, gotta move on to WT3.

If you’re between 40-50 then upgrading weapons 2-3 times is a good idea since drops can be scarce and It’s nice to have some extra power for finishing the campaign and the capstone dungeon. Don’t waste resources on the rest of your slots.

But in general you’ll be replacing stuff quick enough.

I'm level 67.

I entered WT4 at level 62. Capstone final boss took like 20 attempts, finally upgraded my gear to the highest star grades (most were 4/5 already) and got a relevant elixir and beat it. I should've saw this as a sign that I wasn't ready for WT4. Tried anyway and died A LOT even in the open world. At this point I had no zone with max renown, but I did have every statue of lilith.

At this point, levels 62-64 I felt kind of stuck. WT4 content was feeling too difficult, couldn't even do open world, let alone helltide or dungeons. But I realized that as I'd get stronger, the WT4 mobs would remain level 73 so long as I was at or below that level. So from 62-73, the added paragon points, gear upgrades, etc. would hopefully shift up the difficulty. Shamefully, but optimally, I went back to WT3 and started knocking out some quests and dungeons. By the time I had 3 zones maxed out in renown, I was probably level 66 or so - which gave 12 paragon points. And the 3 zones of renown gave another 12 paragon points. HUGE DIFFERENCE. Not to mention that every level up is an increase of like ~90ish life and +1 to all stats.

I'm currently level 67 and already killed The Butcher (level 73) on WT4 twice in normal dungeons.

Hope this helps someone who might find WT4 to be overwhelming. Knock out the lilith statues, work on renown, and it'll all come together.

I'm trying to open a nightmare sigil and getting an error "You don't have access to (insert dungeon name here) yet."

I assume that means I simply haven't discovered it on the map yet?

Affix or find good jewelry and put the top legendary affects on them because they take much longer to replace. As for the rest, you're going to replacing gear pretty randomly and quickly, so I wouldn't invest much more than the jewelry.

What's irritating is the fact that most of the gear I'm getting at level 45 is well below my level. That's a new one for Diablo. I am getting pieces 200 ilevels lower than my current equipment
**** had no idea I’m supposed to be upgrading my gear???

I’ve just been picking up loot and swapping out for whatever was better.

The first one or two upgrades requires very little in materials and gold, but maxing them will use valuable materials. This is why I would not recommend upgrading anything more than jewelry until you get sacred gear. And I did get a weapon that had ridiculous damage on it, which I upgraded and lasted me a long time, but that was the only piece beyond jewelry that I have upgraded until I got my first high rolled sacred piece.

Only upgrade pieces that have optimal stats. Make sure you go into your settings and turn on advance tool Tips. This will tell you the range stats can roll and give you an idea of how good a piece really is.

Here's another tip that I learned; don't spend obols on gear until level 53. At that point, you will start seeing random upgrades loot from the Purveyor. they will be highlighted. Until then, you can grab keys for cheap. Another option is to grab offhands for high rolls of legendary affects to store for later. Otherwise, you are not going to get good gear from him.

^^^ here is a great example of what just happened. I got a sacred legendary weapon, so I upgraded it. Then, 30 minutes later, I got a rare with even better rolls and 50 ilevels higher, with 100+ dps over the upgraded. *insert legendary eyeroll

I’m only guessing but it could be a dungeon you can only unlock after clearing a stronghold.

Is this game fun?

Is it like a pick up and play wherever type game where I don't have to worry about keeping up with the jones?

I stopped playing classic wow because I just can't invest that kind of time any more but I'm good with playing in spurts

The aspects that you get from dungeons completions are very low values compared to what drops, so you extract the highest value aspects to place on a piece to gear with good stats.

For instance, I have one in my bags that I got from a level 15, but it was a perfect "proc", so I'm saving it for max level.

If you’re not going to use it in a build (like playing melee Rogue and It’s a ranged one), salvage.

I wouldn’t bother with imprinting on weapons in WT1/2 since you’ll keep replacing those as you keep leveling.

You’ll have to do some planning or looking up a build guide to figure out which aspects you’ll need. And you’ll have to salvage legendaries to get mats for upgrading other leggos.
I see ok, these posts + what my friend tried explaining to me kinda makes sense.

Depends honestly.

I jumped into world tier 2 and then started playing with my friend and had a load of fun just doing dungeons / strongholds / world bosses with him ... The world events were a ton of fun especially when you group with random dudes. The fact that this game is kinda mmo-ish makes raids even more important and part of the fun .... I wish there were far more raid bosses and even dungeons with a lgf function. It would make the game a lot more fun for the solo / team player .... Hopefully it comes soon.

As for pick up and play .... World tier 2 can give you trouble if your build isn't the best, but it's still doable kinda. I was on world tier two solo and one of my skills wasn't helping that much until I changed it up. Replaced one skill with another and the whole game kinda changed for me and it instantly became a lot more fun and viable.

I just reached world tier 3 and stopped for the night.... I don't think I'm ready to solo it, with my current build but at least if my buddy is online then I have a better chance. So yeah, I feel like it's a lot better for "casual" play with friends rather than solo ... You can solo higher tiers but you'd probably have to go online to search for optimum stuff.

Of course all this is talking out of my ass, so a lot of this is just assumption ... I'm sure the diablo autismos can advise you better.

We can't speak on how seasonal gameplay will be yet. But we can confirm Blizzard's Diablo devs are active with reading player feedback and making balancing changes, fixing bugs, and tweaking the inconveniences that players are disgruntled with. This is a good sign for the future, at least.

Unless you were trying to be one of the first players to level 100 on hardcore for the contest of getting your name put onto the real-life Lilith statue, there's ZERO desire to feel like you need to keep up with the Jones'. If you play with friends, you'll have a desire to keep up with the higher content, but you'll find due to level scaling and the way the game works, you can play with anyone at any time on any zone or story quest, however you cannot access the higher "World Tiers" (higher difficulties with higher end loot) until you meet the requirements on your character. So if a friend unlocks the higher world tiers, they'll feel less inclined to play with you if you're still on the lower tiers, since for the most part what they'd be doing with you would be a waste of time in terms of their own character's progression.

Regardless of where people are at today, you'll get the opportunity to "start at a clean slate with everyone else" once Season 1 starts... and then same for Season 2, and onwards. I recommend playing before seasons start though so you have a good grip on how the game works and feels - and get access to the realm-wide unlocks beforehand too. Also I think you can skip the story after you beat it once, including for seasonals... but not 100% sure on the seasonal interaction with this yet.

Game's fun for an ARPG. The story is great the first go around. The ARPG elements are great, a nice mix between the top games in the genre... more complexity than previous Diablo games, but far more simplicity compared to nerdy number crunching edgelord games like Path of Exile. And people tend to agree D4 has the best graphics of any ARPG to date. So at that point, it comes down to just your personal preferences in relation to ARPG games. Do you like the idea of killing mobs in mass quantities, including slower harder bosses/elites, for RNG loot and grinding/farming? And it keeps getting harder and harder, and you just keep getting better and better loot. You will encounter areas where you feel OP, then walls where you feel very weak. At multiple points of progression.

They changed quite a bit, so even those returning to the game can get a bit overwhelmed. This is a game that will be supported for several years though, so don't feel like there's any kind of rush. In two years from now, they could be adding major content to the game.

The part that confused me the most was paragon. Once I understood, it seemed pretty simple, but it was difficult to find someone who would explain it, but show in real time.

Here is a great explanation that cleared it all up for me.

Just a heads up; In NM, you'll be decked out in yellows quick, replacing most of your legendaries from normal mode. Don't invest terribly!!

The stats make a little more sense now too. Once you get your paragon levels, having "too much intellect" can work for you. You will get passives that increase damage etc. significantly if you stack other stats. You can rearrange your paragon based on which stats you have as well

For all intents and purposes Diablo is a single player game so you aren’t missing out on anything if you play 2 hours/week instead of 20, or just log on every couple of months whenever you feel like it.

All the content is designed to be consumed/completed solo, so even though objectively your toon will be weaker than some sweatlord’s, it doesn’t matter since you’re only “competing” against yourself.

Not getting invited to pugs and thus getting barred from content just because your ilvl isn’t high enougj or you’re not playing some meta build is not a thing in Diablo.

This. Also, the game scales to YOUR level unless you're in a party. So if you're doing a world boss with others, the damage etc is all unique to you. Pretty cool idea, so casual or hardcore players can enjoy the game.

When i went in to WIII, I was wearing most ilevel 550+ gear and a lot of legendaries. First couple of bosses were tough. Then I hit paragon levels and got an ilevel 700 rare weapon and then a 670. It increased my dps by 300-350 from each upgrade. I stacked some armor and was gtg.

This 700 yellow weapon is nuts. I can't find a legendary that is better and I've found a LOT. think I might just add a legendary affix and call it a day. I can upgrade it later.

The number at the very top, just below the name of the weapon.

In years past, this number was hidden, but players discovered it on their own in early WoW, so blizzard shows it now, since players estimated the levels anyway. This is why it is referred to as the internal level vs the required level.

This 700 yellow weapon is nuts. I can't find a legendary that is better and I've found a LOT. think I might just add a legendary affix and call it a day. I can upgrade it later.
So sometimes it's better to roll with rare weapon if it has better white color stats even more than a legendary that is "better" but may not have the stats you want?

For weapons, it's damage. For neck, legendary affects are good because they are increased by 50%, so if you have your top affect on your neck, it will last a long time.

The ilevel of the gear eventually becomes more important if its a big difference because the additive damage created by the secondary stats can overcome main stats.

The only exception I find that makes it tough is giving up a + 1-2 on your skills, because it's % based. If you get a + X% damage, and + X to your main skill, that can be a lot of damage.

Lastly, in tougher content, the armor is good. Right now, armor is really valuable. Blizzard said they didn't like that armor was being valued so high and would eventually balance it out.

This is the discussion I was having with someone else earlier in the thread.

General rule of thumb is that for weapons item power (so dps) > stats and for the rest the other way around.

But to answer your question, yes it is possible that if the dps stats are close enough then a rare will outperform a legendary, but you’ll have to experiment.

Afaik there are no thresholds/breakpoints saying that “if the dps difference is above x then ditch the other one”.

Yeah the game doesn’t really explain any of that.

Or even the “minor” thing that aspects are 150% more powerful on amulets (like Kraken said) and 200% more powerful on 2h weapons.

Imagine one’s shock when they get all giddy extracting a 72% whatever bonus roll from a 2h and then it goes into your aspect tab as a 36% bonus.

Just turn on your additional tool tips and hover over them to see the damage multiplier. For example, each point might increase scale by 6%. This means that a piece of gear with " +2 to twisting blade" will add an additional 12% damage to that ability. % based Damage modifiers are significant.
