You tried to escape the Vault (an immense maximum security facility designed to hold for superhuman criminals and a specialized wing for extraterrestrial prisoners) along with the Griffin, but was defeated again, this time by Falcon and Nomad. You connection to the X-Men is that some time later, you got in another fight again but this time it was with Wolverine (hell yea, Wolvie!) and he gravely wounded you (that fukker!) but managed to escape with your life.

This gave Rocker and Flynn, using his powers of hypnosis, to convince Dazzler to remain with the Gladiators rather than leave with Beast.

In truth, Flynn planned on invading Latveria, and after capturing Beast and Dazzler, Flynn, you and other Gladiators taunted the two about their plans. Dazzler tried to convince you to stop Flynn, but you could not do anything then. Flynn wanted the create an army of mutant warriors through survival of the fittest. You felt this was a bit too much like Hitler's idea of a master race and tried to get fellow Gladiator brah Ivich to oppose Flynn with you. You then released Beast and Dazzler, and got the assistance of the Heartbreak Hotel mutants Poltergeist and Link. After defeating Flynn, you wanted to continue the Gladiators without death matches and was joined by Ivich and the other Gladiators. The movies "300" and "Gladiator" are the Misc fave movies to watch and you are living it.
