Fuk yeah brah. I cycle almost every day now with a basic specialised globe bicycle. I brought it back from the dead during lockdown and enjoyed learning the process. Felt good man reviving a back and getting it back good as new. When I start learning of scenic cycling places, I'll upgrade my bike and drive out to new places as a hobby.

Where I live is very hilly so want a e-bike that won't make me too lazy that I could take into the city centre and central park and just spend sunday summer evenings on the bike exploring the beautiful city. No better way to travel tbh.

I finally decided on the American Classic Kimberlite tires (all black, 700x40)

I was HEAVILY leaning toward the panaracer gravelking SK's, but there were some concerning reviews in regards to the durability.... Also they would have taken an extra week to arrive.

We'll see how difficult it is for me to convert these rims to tubeless.... I consider myself an expert tho.

For my birthday my wife (with the help of track friend) got me a Tiemeyer track frame w/ DuraAce with some Zipp carbon wheels with tubulars. Night and day from my old frame / setup. It’s really too nice of a gift.

This pic does not compute:

Ultegra w/ Red, only 1 bottle cage, granny gear, platform pedals, sign clearly states do no block.

Nice bike tho. Mirin’

Lol I don't want clip ins for whatever reason....

Cannondale uses a BB30 bottom bracket so you can't use a Shimano crank unless you use an adapter. SRAM red is the lightest option and they make a BB30 crank

The largest cog on the cassette is either 28T or 30T, whatever they ship with I replaced with Ultegra. The crank is a compact though, I went from a 52/36 to a 50/34. It gets steep here and I have thought about going to a 30T cassette if mine is a 28T

Cannondale Synapse bb30 w/ FSA ring crew checking in.

Can’t imagine climbing w/o clipless crew checking in. If you clipped, you could climb out of the saddle and pull up. No way you’ll need a grannyer gear.

Hahaha. Flat pedals on all my bikes CREW.

Tried clipless once and it felt like my soul died right there.

Years ago I had difficulty accepting the fact I just like mashing my flat pedals; now I embrace it.

I can’t even.

It becomes a push/pull motion. Gives you more power. Easily jump over obstacles. Sprint out of the saddle….

I climb all of the time out of the saddle. Just recently climbed up a mountain to check out a winery in the Santa Cruz mountains. Biggest impact on making that ride easier would either be cutting body fat and / or getting carbon wheels and cutting 1 lb+ on the wheels. Those wheels are heavy / aluminum.

I never said you cant ride out of saddle - I said you cant pull up. Yes, you can ride out of saddle, but you can only stand on the pedal to generate power.... I (and everyone that is clipless) can stand on one pedal and simultaneously pull up on the other one... Spreading the workload over different muscle groups....

But whatever - what cyclist wants to generate more power when they can go slower in an easier gear?

Just do a quickie from your front door before anyone else is even awake. I just burned a super short 17 miles. Mostly canal gravel. 1 hour, done.

A few weeks ago I had my first decent crash on my bike. I ended up going to the ER later that day after lots of back and forth about it. I went because I was going to Disney World a few days later. Turns out I ended breaking my left thumb. I just now finally had an appointment with a Dr about it and I am out at least another 5 weeks.

I've been riding my project bike a bit more lately, and did a neat little single track/road ride the other day. When the singletrack is smooth and flowy, the bike is a riot, but at any indication of rocks, it's OVER lol. The American Classic gravel tires are surprisingly quiet on the road... not a whole lot worse than my gatorskins as far as the feeling of efficiency & speed.

I'm done with the bike for a little while, back to single speed MTBing.

oof.

I FUARKED my knee a little over a year ago, still traumatized by it, and it was a slow AF recovery. joint inflamation in the knee is the WOAT.

I have a Hope PRO-4 hub, and am always disappointed in the 44 points of engagement.... I have another hub with over 100 points of engagement, and the difference is incredible.

Found this hack where you can grind down two of the pawls in the PRO-4 hub to double your points of engagement to 88!

Kind of a risky hack, and probably gonna be difficult, but I think I'm up for it.....

Ya it was bad timing. We went to disneyworld 3 days later. I got lucky it was just my thumb. I was going down a step rock section going pretty fast and as soon as I cleared that I hit some loose dirt and my bike went one way and I went another. Then I had to ride another 4-5 miles back to my truck.

Getting the pawls the same length and keeping the end square by hand definitely seems difficult.

I'd still try it though. I've had one Hope rear hub and the bearings only lasted a year. Switched to another hub rather than changing them.

Have an Onyx on my XC bike. The engagement is nice but mainly I like the silence.

Odd. Ive been hammering these PRO-4s for a long time now, no issues other than the lousy engagement.

i9 would probably be my next hub if these ever die.

My FUNN hub (crap brand) is incredible.... Over 100 points of engagement and never gave me issues, but its non-boost so Im not running it on any bikes atm. They discontinued that hub.

Yeah, I thought it was odd too. PRO 4 seems highly regarded and quality. Mine didn't make it. Reliability is my number one concern so parts usually only get one chance to prove themselves.

I'm thinking of heading to Tucson soon to do the MT LEMMON ride.... you gain 7,000 feet in a 54 mile round trip.... And it's basically straight up the entire way, then straight down all the way back. I haven't done it since 2016, and don't feel "ready" right now; probably going to bite off way more than I can chew.... But that's life.

Well boyos, my steel 1989 Raleigh road frame finally snapped into two pieces on the downtube right where the downtube shifters are (yes, it's an old AF bike lol).

I didn't crash, but immediately knew the frame cracked when I heard a "SNAP" and the bike felt like a wet noodle underneath me.

I've been riding that thing since 2014 and even though it was hilariously flexy, and just not "good" regarding performance in any way at all, it hasn't needed any real maintenance or replacements in the 15,000 miles I've put on it over 8 years.

It still has the same wheels (although I laced all new spokes on the rear wheel several years ago), same derailleurs, same brakes.... It is the Shimano 600 group (now known as ULTEGRA) and it has been a beast.

I'm tinkering with the idea of swaping all the parts from the broken frame to my "hybrid" bike and turning that hybrid into my new knock-around commuter road bike that I won't need to lock up. The front wheel swaps right over, but I will need to re-lace my 1989 rim to the current hybrid hub in order to get the rear end to sync up properly due to the different spacing. The amount of time I'm putting into this swap doesn't make any sense logically, but I enjoy it, and find it fulfilling to keep old parts going and going for eternity.

I just weighed my tire/wheel combo and I will be losing about 50oz of rotational weight from my hybrid bike by moving the roadie wheels over to it... JFL.

Finally did mt Lemmon again. Slowest trip on Lemmon out of the 4 times I've done it.... I'm doing single speed September (all cycling miles done single speed for the month) and hope that'll up my game in a huge way.

I'm kicking around the idea of doing a 2:1 gear ratio single speed up Lemmon..... We'll see. It's +6500 feet sooooooo...

Been so freaking hot here in cali. Plus things have been none stop. Haven't ridden in a while.

Good news is that I might possibly upgrading to a Pivot Switchblade from the Commencal Meta HT. We will see.... No promises but I will know by Monday.

Full suspension bikes are fun, but don't sell your Meta HT because honestly you will miss it after a while. Big full suspension bikes feel absolutely dead on the vast majority of singletrack trails. I understand the versatility of full suspension is better, etc.... But I sold my Bronson because of the deadness.

I feel fine. Like I said, this was an extremely slowly paced ride, and the slowest Lemmon ride I've ever done. I went into the ride believing I wouldn't finish which led me to just take it EZ and I had a very enjoyable ride as a result. The waterfalls/rivers are FLOWING right now; it's incredible out there. I have an easy week coming up so I may just go hit it again. I believe it was a comfy 65 degrees when I was at the top. Just perfect.
