Oh yeah some of my absolute worst crashes were on pedal strikes, or just riding casually on very smooth, not gnarly track...

like a high rock or something you smashed while peddling? threw you off balance and over? i stay away from the rocky/rooty stuff. XC but mostly hardcore urban rider jumping curbs/speed bumps as ramps, stairsets of doom (sam pilgram) and basic tricks, like a bmx pretty much.

over here its start of winter and we just got another light dusting of snow plus its only around 30F. perfect for skidding. long 10-20foot fishtale skids and having the bike near sideways but front tire still going straight. super fun.

my worst injury was a knee sprain (mild tearing MCL). was out for bout 3.5 months and another few to finally start jumping again. about a year to finally feel "normal" again. it was the worst man. get well soon boyo.

pedal catchers are medium size rocks that perfectly "catch your pedal" when you least expect it.

Best case, it screws up your cadence, and you keep moving.
Medium case, it'll stop you completely, but you're still upright and dab your foot down.
Worst case, it throws you to the ground at super-fast speed. (what happened to me). It's like going from 25mph to 0mph in .0001sec

Annoying, but I found some specialized tires online for $30 each (Specialized purgatory 27.5)

I tried repairing my flat on the trail with a tubolito, but the tubolito only lasted 5 miles before it popped too.

Only thing i see good deals on is Kona bikes. Around here the LBS has em listed for 30% off. on MTB reddit, people have mentioned some kona's BOGO free (lol what??)

Go check jensonUSA, it's actually hard to NOT find a deal. Dropper posts are discounted, I might grab one. I just bought specialized tires (from the specialized website) for $30/each. Pedals, grips, handlebars.... You name it, it's on sale.

I'm hoping to get more MTBing done in 2024. 2023 was WEAK for MTB. I've had past years where I'd log over 200,000 feet of MTB climbing, but this year I didn't even get over 100,000 feet.

I have no idea how much I rode my folder bike because who is recording THAT??? But I easily put over 1,000 miles on the Brompton since July... No joke. Love that bike.

Current product I've been enjoying a lot.... ROCK "N" ROLL GOLD CHAIN LUBE.

Seems to "clean" the chain, as well as lubricate it, thus reducing the gunk which my chain would otherwise accumulate.

I re-apply it often because of how much better the bike immediately feels with a fresh coat/wipe down.

You are in a desert (I thought) why are you using a wet lube vs a dry? Doesn't that get dirty fast?

I've used 'dry' ones in the past, my favorite one was probably the wd40 dry bicycle chain lube. I'd say this stuff is better because of it's cleansing ability during lube/wipe down. I am applying this stuff more often, but it's a more noticeable improvement on the drivetrain smoothness.

Still blows my mind that people don't use paraffin wax. Converted years ago and I will literally never go back.

Finally snagged a new RACE FACE (designed and manufactured by FOX) dropper for $109 on JENSON USA. regular $299.

Installed it, seems better than the ONE UP and GIANT droppers I've had in the past, but time will tell. This is the 4th dropper I've owned, and I haven't "liked" any of them lol.

I got some deity deftrap composite flat pedals and they are incredible.

Completely ripped out my Achilles Tendon from my ankle bone. Took bone fragments with it. Surgeon cleaned out the bone fragments then had to attach the tendon back to the ankle with anchors. 8 weeks before I can even WALK on it.

Tore it 2 days (50-year trail) before the 24hour mountain bike race in Tucson. Still raced including the LeMans running start because I'm not a pu$$y. Was able to race 4 laps (65miles) in the desert with one leg including the rock drop and hitting the kicker all 4 times.

Ran clipped in on my good foot, and ran flats on the ripped foot. Didn't come in last. My team took a total of 6 laps (I ran 4, my brother ran 2. LOL!).

Also.. no longer NEET lifestyle. Got a full-time job as a bike mechanic at a local bike shop in the valley. I'm using a leg crutch. I can walk hands-free including lifting and wrenching.

Honestly, I'm either addicted to pain, or I just don't feel it.

Also why I workout until true failure. There is no pain, no exhaustion, I just go until I simply cannot lift weight anymore. Then I count to 10, and squeeze out a few more reps, then rest 3 minutes until next set.

Pic above is me cold. Just started working out again with a gimp leg, and somewhat healed collarbone. Started riding hard exactly 2 weeks after breaking my collarbone. Subtle brag, but I turn 52 this month.

Gonna get jacked AF until I can ride again.
