Well guys my tendonitis is so fking bad right now in my right arm that I don’t see any chances whatsoever of using my gym again , at least for a few years anyways. Yesterday it was actually difficult to walk as the pain was extremely sharp in my forearm as I was swinging it . And that’s after almost 4 months of not lifting praying it’s going to improve.
So now I’m thinking , fk ya , use the gym as a huge drifting track . I have been watching several videos on the different types of remote control drifting cars , and am still not sure whether to go with a 2 wheel drive or 4wd car?
I’m thinking the rubber flooring in my gym may be counter productive to drifting , but I see most cars have tires that you can change from rubber to solid plastic etc , so maybe the solid tires will help .
I’m definitely wanting to keep the scale 1/43 , as any larger and you need a lot of space . I believe my gym will provide me with enough to make a decent track for the 1/43 scale.
I think this should be easy to implement , just buy a dozen 2/4’s and paint them white . Then place them and screw them together where you want to divide the track .
I’m thinking just toss the 3 benches in the storage area and there should be a decent amount of realestate to work with here

I shut down my PayPal and have nothing to do with EBay anymore . Pretty much Amazon or the store of origin. Unfortunately most of the good stuff is in the US.
Instead of right angles on the turns , I’m trying to think of how to make curved corners with wood . I guess thin layers glued together would work , but I’m thinking about checking out our local glass shop as they used to sell this stuff called puck board I believe.

Ok this looks fun AF lol . These are sure fast , and I’m wondering why these barriers are made of to design the track ? The more I look at it the coloured corners may not be a bad idea , as it may assist in seeing the corners better .
I thought the dividers were too wide , but it may be helpful , as you can walk on it to flip your car back over while not blocking other drivers

Kyosho is also super high quality, made in Japan, for the most part. Some of the budget friendly kits are made in China or Taiwan.
My 1/10 scale 2WD car that I posted in post #11 is a Kyosho, made in Japan. They are some of the highest quality kits out there.
Edit: I just watched your video. Didn't know Team Associated also made Mini-Z size kits.

So now my rubber flooring in my gym may be advantageous. Just gotta source these cars in Canada

Amain Hobbies in California ships to Canada. Don't know the shipping rates, but they stock almost everything. They're like the amazon.com for RC needs.

Ok I think this is what you’re referring to . They don’t even mention the scale here , well that I can see. Anyways I think they need more room than I can provide , and tbh this is kind of what I want now after seeing them .
I just measured my gym and the area I want to use is about 11.5 feet by 20 feet . I suspect that’s not near big enough . I need to win the lotto and build a house that accommodate that exact track in the video lol

The one thing I just realized with the Mini Z is that they take AAA batteries. That's a pain in the ass. Would have thought they would have made little rechargeable LiPo packs for them.
Edit: Mini Z is 1/27th scale. The Team Associated SR27 is a lot cheaper, but the ratings aren't that good, and they only come in 2 body styles: Datsun or Nissan Z

Ok I just was on YouTube and see what you’ve mentioned, they are 1/27 scale . Probably better tbh , as the smaller ones handle kind of weird , and 1/27 is far closer to real life . Plus I love the chassis they use .
And yes I thought triple A batteries were a weird choice , but I watched a video and I guess if you’ve got some to swap maybe it’s ok . Still weird though .
And I never realized that track is a kit . They use all foam including the barriers , so it makes total sense.
I don’t think I have enough room tbh for that scale , and now that’s all I want to use now after doing the research . Good call on your part srs .
Here’s a pretty good video on it

And tbh looking at the pics I wouldn’t go any smaller.
I should mention that includes removing the uprights for the squat racks . Srs this is something to consider, as I can’t see me working out again anyways. Maybe in a couple years if my tendons improve I’ll join a gym .
I can see this being a great setup . Use the extra space where the bars are for a bench to work on cars . Plus I’ll still have room to get rinsed

The little Kyosho track kit is cool, but you can also make a track with PVC piping.
I'd hate to see you sell all your gym equipment and then get bored of the track after a little bit. Maybe your tendonitis heals up faster than 2 years.

I don’t really have the heart to sell the gym , and it can sit as long as it needs to . I’m going to order that 1/43 Porsche for chits and giggles and see how it feels .
I really need to win the lottery and build a track properly if I’m going to be happy . Been watching videos and for 1/27 scale you need a ton of room to do it right .
I’m seeing these different tracks and some are actually too big . I think 20x40 would probably be a very good size

Just ordered this 1/43. Not a huge investment , and with my lack of room it may be a better fit . If it works well I’ll buy a few more and build a track .
This brand did pretty well in the reviews
You know what would be cool af , if they had an Ai drone car you could race against lol
type of mathematical equivalence

Those Mini-Zs are sick, they are basically identical to XMODs, I had never known about them before, might have to get one the basic models look cheap too.

I think a 40’x20’ track would be ideal . Have a bunch of tables set up for building and repairs . Can’t imagine the lol’s a guy would have if he had 6 guys racing and some beer .

Ok my 1/43 scale just showed up . Pretty lolzy tbh , and it drifts much better than expected on my gyms rubber flooring . Unfortunately I’ve got chit everywhere , and it would be cool to run it on a bigger area when I get things sorted out .
I watched a video on how to build a course on the cheap , and they used that plastic barrier stuff they use for gardens . My rubber flooring is fine , except I hit a few ridges on the left that I’ll have to take a look at someday .
Would be cool to build a big track and have 4 racing at once for lols. I can see where I guy needs a big arse area if he wants a mini Z track , well to do it properly.
Btw guys I never charged it . Grabbed it out of the box and did a test . I think if I played with the steering ration I could dial it in better, plus this got me thinking, I think there’s a gyro you can set to different levels. Will have to check out later when it’s charged

On a side note, I stumbled upon something that might be better than Mini-Z. Mini-Z is 1/27th scale. Team Associated makes this 1/28th scale, but it allows you to buy rechargeable LiPo batteries, unlike the AA batteries that MiniZ takes. The only downside is, you need to kit it out with radio, motor, speed controller, servo, LiPo battery and charger, so it becomes substantially more expensive than Mini-Z, but the quality looks sick with steel chassis and carbon fiber parts included. It's really like a 1/10th or 1/12th scale racer, just a lot smaller.

But the more I see them the more I like that scale .
1/43 is too small and I’m noticing problems with my rubber tiles not interlocking smooth enough in certain areas for the 1/43 scale . I basically bought it for chits and giggles anyways and it wasn’t a huge investment.
I only wish I had enough room to do a decent size RCP track with the mini z . I watched a video on YT and the guy had the 30 cm track and it’s way too small . I wouldn’t even bother unless I had the 50mm track after watching him and his buddies race in his garage.
To do this properly I think it’s a rich man’s game do it right or don’t do it at all .
I’ll see if I can find his video

For 1/10 scale, LiPo provides way more run time. I run LiPo in both my cars and transmitter. If you go back to the 80s/90s, when we used to solder up NiCd battery packs, we would have 4 minute races because the batteries would dump close to the 4 minute mark. You always had to worry about the battery dumping at the end of the run, and had to gear accordingly. Nowadays, LiPo lasts like 12-15 minutes, maybe longer. Races are now 5 minutes long and we don't have to gear to the battery dumping, instead we gear to the motor overheating. So, you bring a temp gun and check the motor after 5 minutes. I gear mine up to temps of 130 degrees or so. Some people run as hot as 150-160 degrees, but if you get that hot, you risk smoking your motor.
The other thing with LiPo is you can charge really fast. You get a good DC charger with a separate power supply and you can charge as high as 30 amps, which would get a 5000mah pack charged in 5 minutes. I have about a dozen LiPo packs for my 1/10 scale cars, and I charge at 5-10 amps, so it takes me around 10-15 minutes. When you charge at higher amps, like 30 amps, you get more punch, but the pack degrades quicker over time. So, I play it safe with 5-10 amps. When I used to race, I would charge 4-5 packs before I head to the track, and I can get some good practice laps in before the racing starts. I just have to wait for the motor to cool down while I swap packs and clean and hit my tires with more traction compound.
The other thing is, you don't necessarily have to build your own track, you can go to a local race track and race competitively at the club level. But, it does get a little expensive.
Now, for that 1/28 scale, it takes a little 400mah pack, so you can charge that thing really quickly. Also, check out this little 1/28 screaming around the track:
