From what I gather, people like Matt Morse were shocked that there was NO METAL DETECTORS until right before entering the ballroom itself....

No security for the actual hotel or whatever location?

But ONLY when trying to enter the ballroom was there patdowns/metal detectors, and Matt found it odd that the metal detectors were so far into the scene, so close to where the prez was.
