The irony is that he raised me to outright reject social services. There were times when we were poor enough to qualify for public assistance, but he refused. Even to the point of making me pay for my own school lunches in high school when the district would’ve qualified me for free food due to our low household income.

That's what government assistance is supposed to be there for. Preventing a working person from losing everything and allowing that person to recover has a Return on Investment factor many times over. Another reason to get rid of illegals, is cases like this.

The fact that one in SIX Americans are in some kind of financial support program might shock some people. If that system went away, it would be devastating to a massive slice of the country.

That means the other 5 are paying for it. Probably 3 of those 5 are barely even scraping by. 1 out of them is probably okay but still has a financial loss and lives less prosparily due to it. Maybe 1 of those 5 is okay and doesn't do too badly.

Elderly and disabled people need assistance or they die of starvation, heat stroke, or frostbite. Assistance for able-bodied people should not be allowed, but it's really tough when these dead beats have kids that go without food and clothing.

Maybe if they had been decent people there kids would take care of them or if they had ever worked out once in there life instead of spending 100% of there free time rotting in front of a tv with a beer in hand they would age gracefully.
