I'm partially in the author space as a side hustle, and it's crazy how much paid work has been completely replaced by AI. Even ghostwriting, and while AI writing can be spotted a mile away, it takes far less time to create a generated 50k word book and then edit it into your own style than writing it from scratch.
Book editing, cover design, proofreading are all completely not necessary to pay anyone for now.
I'm encouraging my kids to go into industries that can't be replaced so easily. It's almost anything STEM is now a waste of time.

I have a feeling alot of these "AI layoffs" are just an excuse to fire this
Meanwhile those who remain (imported indian slaves) are working more and more hours per week while earning less.
Its all smoke and mirrors

These people didn't have any work to do. At best they made a few powe point slides a week..then attend a few meetings. Most of the day they are just fucking off
Moat white collar jobs are like that
AI removed the stigma of layoffs because people feel like it's inevitable so they are laying off for financial boosts from cost cutting

Told everyone long ago the reason AI was rolled out was to replace the vaxcels that have been irreversibly poisoned /murdered billions of people
wait sorry, "depopulated" is a nicer way of putting it there's just too many people on the earth we need to get rid of most of them - thank u bill gates!

This is actually very common nowadays to send people home on days of big layoffs. It has nothing to do with AI, it's all the fact that these companies way overhired during COVID and are now becoming mature companies and don't need such a massive bloated workforce with interest rates so high.
Most of these people should feel lucky they had the opportunity to work for a tech company in its hayday and likely earning 2-3x their actual labor market value.

I got laid off from Meta as a low performer. I wish people told me to budget, downsize, and create a plan immediately.

In the 70's and 80's my step father was a robotics engineer. Robots were taking jobs like crazy. Then the 90's and computers took a lot of jobs. Somehow we keep adapting and I am hoping that the same will apply with AI. I really hope.
AI can't weld, at least not yet. (well it can but not take the place of actual welders). AI and robots can't do a lot of things. As an automotive tech and assist manager of a car dealer service department, it's next to impossible to find decent techs. Trades are almost all like this, where it's so hard to find people. Most lax their standards on a lot of things just because we need people.
