Well tbh Police officer/law enforcement AS A WHOLE has long been an avenue for working-class whites especially to

1) have solid employment whereby they usually come from a fractured family/divorce/poor

2) low skills and ability to gain skills outside of law-enforcement; I don't mean they are stupid necessarily but they are not the brightest (in fact I'm pretty sure they screen for too-smart).

3) pension with great benefits

4) inroad from military service where MANY not all are simply not able to compete in larger commercial-market so they become cops

BTW: I USED TO THINK COPs have cop-personality because the time on the jobs/peers shapes their personality. I THINK I AM WRONG (highly unusual)...I think the process screens for that personality even before they become cops and is reinforced when around others.
